Question about a vintage fur coat

    Hi,

Would anyone be able to tell me something, please, about this fur coat, particularly what fur it might be? I believe it was made in the 50s or earlier. It bears the label National Fur Company Ltd which Dr Google tells me is now defunct. You'll gather from the pictures that the colour seems to change in different lights. (Maybe that's what fur does). A sort of greyness becomes more pronounced in brighter, cooler light. Looked at in most lights it is a dark, reddy brown. It's been in my family since new but unfortunately all those who have passed it down are long gone. So I can't ask them about it. Hope someone can help - but, either way, many thanks for reading.

    Hi,

That’s a great description. I could have almost told you the fur type without seeing the pictures.
It’s Russian squirrel and it dates to the 50s.
