Question Tommy Design Shirt with Different Label

I have recently acquired this shirt that I’m pretty certain is Tommy Hilfiger. However, the tag says “Surf Side” and made in Canada. I am curious if this is one of the first Tommy shirts and did Tommy Hilfiger allow or depend on other companies at first to get his brand known?

Also, the same jersey shirt is offered as a “Hilfiger” on the front with a normal Tommy Tag.

What year would your you estimate this shirt to be?
