Rainbows for Pride Month Around the world the rainbow is seen as a symbol of endurance, peace, and hope, and the rainbow flag has come to symbolize not only those attributes but also visibility, unity and diversity in the LGBTQ+ community. Designed by Gilbert Baker at the urging of Harvey Milk, the first rainbow flag was flown on June 25, 1978, at the ninth anniversary of the Stonewall riots which inspired the first Pride Month. This week we honor Pride Month with vintage fashions from all eras that feature rainbow stripes and all the colors of the rainbow.
