    Hello,
I found this link to a site with an incredable list of clothing books for sale. I contacted them in regards to wholesale orders. I am sure many of you may have already seen this list but I thought I would pass it on anyway
    Thanks
    Dianne:hiya:

what a wonderful list. I could spend a mint on books, but I'd rather spend it on clothes.
anyone have MUST HAVE books to suggest, on vintage clothing...one you keep nearby because you use it so much

One of the things I collect is vintage lingerie. I got some pricy books a while ago on the subject and was upset at the lack of actual refrence information (materials, labels, dates, etc)...I could have just bought porn pretty much.

I suggest this guys books, they are big and have info as well as amazing pictures. He's a Japanese collector and you can feel his passion through his books.

for 60's-70's leathers, hippie prints, Peter Max, and amazing custom pieces, his #4 book Hippie Rags.
I have this one (the auther signed it for me at the Rose Bowl) and will get the others.

    I don't know, but I just pre-ordered Jonathan's shoe book on amazon.ca!

I tend to date things by looking through all my old vintage magazines... The old Vogues and even everyday mags like Good Housekeeping show exactly what was in vogue for that year or even month. Plus you get great old ads for vintage clothes in them.

I am wondering if a repository for vintage clothing ads would be a usedful addition to this site, if it isn't up somewhere already? I could share plenty!

  9. Please, please-before you buy from that list check amazon through our link at the top and see if they have it at a good price. You may save a little money and you will be helping out the VFG.

Good point Marie. Its a good list and very nice to have it all in one place, but whenever possible buy from Amazon thru the link from the VFG. Its an easy way to help support the guild!

  12. Do you think we could make our own list of books similar to this one with the direct links from Amazon and house it on the VFG site?? From VFGers reviews, I know some of the books on the list are NOT recommended purchases and of course they would not be included.

That's an excellent idea Bonnie, and the way Amazon is structured it would't be hard to do... hmmmm ;)

Dianne, thanks so much for posting that list (which I'm going to cross-reference with Amazon.com's stock)! I was completely blown away -- it's just astonishing! Lots of teriffic books many of us are familiar with, along with a lot of titles I've never seen before but look really interesting. It was just such a surprise to see so many books on the subject all in one place (or all on one page).

LOL, I think there are two main things going on here (both good!), first the original post's list of books (and Bonnie's idea for a VFG list), and then Fishstique's thought about doing a VFG archive of vintage clothing advertising (and Sara's volunteering).

It looks like two interesting suggestions here!

  15. "and then Fishstique's thought about doing a VFG archive of vintage clothing advertising "

I love old ads and it would be great to have a library of some here on the VFG.

The only thing better than getting great suggestions like this from a member is getting the suggestion from a member who is willing to work on the project.
yay! Fishstique and Sara. Maybe you two could start a thread.

I'd be happy to but I wonder if the thought needs more than a thread - or perhaps the ads can be done alphabetically something like the lable resource? I have access to so many ads, that one thread would go on forever.

have to run to a meeting, will think about this more!

Hey now! Thanks for posting this. I guess I still need to learn my way around the message boards. But these books are exactly what I've been looking for.

I would be happy to contribute--I bought a slew of mags and catalogs from the 1890s-1960s a few weeks ago (haven't really had time to really go through them, but there's definitely gold in them thar hills...)
