Hi all I'm not sure what this is called, when it's from etc. It could be vintage or it could be modern - I don't actually know. When I burn test it the fabric ignites, continues to burn and leaves no bead. Any help would be great! Thanks!
These antique Cantonese piano shawls are usually made of silk and hand embroidered with long fringe. I've handled a number of these shawls that have been made into capes and jackets. The shawls were quite popular in the early 1900s-1920s. It's likely that this jacket conversion took place much later. It would be hard to say without handling it and examining the construction.
I agree with Marsha. It is a vintage shawl and looks like someone made it into some sort of garment. Probably in the 1970s, but not sure. The shawl does not look antique, but is vintage. The older ones (for example 1920s) would have hand knotted fringes, with much longer fringes, and the shawl would be larger in size, generally.

When you say vintage - do you think the shawl itself was made in the 70's? Ot it was converted in the 70's? Thanks
Hard to say when the shawl itself was made. Can you determine if it is silk, or is it rayon? Shawls were big again in the 1970s, so it is possible it was made at that time, but hard to say without actually handling it in person. It does not have the look (to me) of a shawl made pre 1950s.
