Silk Robe - Dating and Origin

    Hello,

I have a silk brocade robe, Chinese maybe?, with flared sleeves and a 54" length. It has a solid black silk lining. Someone attempted to add buttonholes.

I've included two full length photos, one shows the collar open, the other closed so the cream colored fabric crosses the chest. Closed makes more sense, but there isn't a way to hold it in place. Maybe the fastener has fallen off.

Any info you have on dating or origin would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

It's damask, not brocade. Are you sure the white isn't the lining? It looks like it should be on the inside and the black on the outside. It's a Chinese damask - same source as the robe?

Jonathan makes a very good point, in that it could indeed be inside out. Both fabrics (this and the other house robe) appear to be Japanese in origin, although the actual construction of the garments may be USA or another country.

Thank you for the fabric correction and details. What time period does it look like?
