    Here y'are Lizzie.

Always difficult to take full length shots, as the pattern attacks the camera from a distance. The full shot isn't that great - that vertical colour change in the first shot is an illusion - but the details are better. I took a new label shot too.

The detail shots show the pattern and colour best. I've made them slightly smaller than the actual files are, so they should come up larger when you save them. You don't need to put a credit if it doesn't fit - but if you do, just use 'noirboudoir.com'?

    :)

I bought this from starvingcollegemom (now wyoming vintage? I think) a while ago. Tried to get this out in order to sell it... but it's gone back in the 'not-for-sale' side of the wardrobe for now.

I'm glad it is in the Keep pile! This is the earliest Swirl Wrap I've ever seen. Most of the ones that come up are from the early 60s, but this one is much earlier. I love the print.

I've saved the pictures and will be using them in my Swirl article. Thanks!

    You're welcome!

What I've always been mildly puzzled by is why it's called a 'ty-wrap' when there's no *tie* on this dress, unlike the later classic design... Only the two front buttons and an elasticated waist. Not even any belt loops.

Looking forward to greater enlightenment (if not on this, then on all the context!)

I MAY have a photo of this early design from a magazine spread. Stay tuned.

    Oooh, interesting.

Meantime, I've been admiring it, and I couldn't resist:

    Viewing the Orientalist's Wardrobe...

heh. There'll be plenty more material...

hehe. I probably shouldn't mention I bought it in an old 'VBO'.

It looks unworn, and I haven't got around to wearing it at all, which is why it almost made it to the sale rail...

But photographing it, as always, reminds you of how much you like these things...

Show your Swirl, Harriet! We could have a (perhaps short :D ) preview parade in the run up to Lizzie's feature...

Here's a Swirl I'm working on right now. It's longer than most Swirls I've had at 46".

Oh, I really like the delicate bodice and pocket treatment on that. They must have had a whole design department entitled 'Cunning Ways to Make Dresses Cute'.

I'll have to check the length of mine, but I doubt it's that long.

    So, Harriet.... ? :)

OK, took a quick look with the tape measure and mine's 44" long from neck to hem laid flat.

Came back and read yr interesting comments on this VCA thread for the late 50s Swirl.

Gathering Swirls must be like having a neverending series of customized models to collect or something... even more so than normal label or designer specialisation.

i'm getting to it, honest! i know where it is and had intended to photograph it this afternoon but unfortunately foolish husband has just drilled through a central heating pipe causing much gushing water and has had to rush off to diy shop. instead of minding children.

    grrrr.

my swirl has (i think from memory) the same label as the pink one. pink cotton with rose details on the pocket.. will be back later after domestic incompetence has been resolved:rolleyes:

hope this comes out ok - am having some lighting issues!!

label is the same, as i thought - i will be listing this in the next day or so (may as well now i've pressed it..) and will check back with the measurement.

and then i also remembered i had a much later linen sun dress with a swirl label - no dress pics i'm afraid as i broke the mannequin AGAIN shortly afterwards in a different place on the stand.. i think it's a late 70's dress.

Well that's definitely worth the wait - that's such a charming dress (in the best possible sense) - the rosebud decoration is just right, not too much, but enough to really enhance the dress.

That second label - is the style of the dress very, very different? Moving away from the housecoat form?

it's like an enormous black linen mix tube, with a halter neck string attached at the front neck so you can gather it slightly to fit.
it is a totally different design, but still has the decorative element (giant red appliqued rose on front)
will try and add a pic tomorrow for you!
