I found this darling little jacket. The only tag is the National Recovery Act tag, so I'm assuming it is 30s. Right?<img src=http://image.inkfrog.com./pix/camelbackcat/30SJACKET1.jpg> thanks, joey
According to Hollis's research on the label resource, it has to date 1933-35, as those were the only years it was used. I wish there were lots of handy labels like that! Lizzie
hmm. that doesn't look like an early 30s jacket - way too structured and waisted. Do you have a photo of the label? Hollis
That jacket does look newer to me than mid to late 30s. I'm a bit confused about the NRA label and how it dates --- are you sure it doesn't say National Recovery Board? In the research I did on a coat I sold that had that label last year, here's what I came up with to date it in the auction: The only label is a small cloth tag inside that says <I>National Recovery Board Coat and Suit Industry </I> in a seal on the front and <I> Consumers Protection Label EWG Manufactured Under Fair Labor Standards </I> on the back. Since the Fair Labor Standards Act was passed in 1938 and this particular NRB tag is commonly used after 1935 --- and taking into account the shorter length and flared skirt --- I’d date this coat to be most likely from World War II time between 1938 and 1942.
There is confusion on these two labels - one is the National Recovery Board, which is prety common and goes on a very long time - 1935 up into the 50s and I think I have seen it in th early 60s. The other is the National Recovery Act label - this has the Blue Eagle on it is only in the early 30s. Hollis
this one has the following label : "National Coat and Suit Industry Recovery Board 005975. Manufactured under Fair Labor Standards Act." Now, I'm confused. It does feel more 40s'. Should I change the date in the auction? joey
As Hollis explained, the only label that dated 33-35 is the one with the eagle on it. I recently found a pattern with it. <img src=http://members.sparedollar.com/fuzzylizzie/patdu30.jpg> The label in Joey's jacket was used for a much larger time, and so it most likely is 40s. Sorry for the confusion.:o Lizzie
that's the one! You often find it deeply hidden in a seam allowance. And occasionally in a hat band. But when you do see it, be sure to show it in your auction or mall listing - I have found it to add value. Another odd little label that can add value is the A New York Design label form the late 30s and 40s. Holllis
