Vintage Inspirations: Calming Lavender Maybe it started with Pantone’s Ultra Violet, the color of the year in 2018; its pale counterpart lavender simply breezed into favor for spring and summer 2019. Lavender—historically so often worn for its soft illumination near the face by “women of a certain age”—is a pastel for grown-ups. Its dignity was so accepted that in the Georgian, Victorian, and Edwardian eras in Britain, lavender was a hue worn for half-mourning dress. In this year’s reset, shades of lavender are paired with leopard prints, edgy shapes, feathers, glitter, and bare skin. Lavender for unexpected accessories, lavender in floral prints.
