Vintage Levi’s 507XX jacket missing red tab

    Hi all,

I’m new here, and I’d appreciate the expertise of those more knowledgable than myself. I got this Levi’s jacket from a friend who was cleaning out their attic, and they said it is from the 50’s or 60’s. My research so far has seemed to confirm that it is a genuine vintage 507XX jacket (lightly imprinted “17” on some buttons, selvedge on inside front only, etc.) Additionally, the wear on the jacket and metal residue on some of the buttons seems to confirm that it is old and has been sitting for a while.

My only issue is that the iconic red tab is missing. I tried searching this issue online, but found no results. If this means it is fake, it seems strange that this would be such a quality (albeit old) fake otherwise, but would miss one of the most important features. However, if it is real, it seems strange that someone would have removed the tab. I was also unable to find evidence that the tag was ripped off.

Any help or information is much appreciated.
    Thanks!!

Boy oh boy that sure looks like the real deal but I am also mystified why the red label would not be there. This might deserve a little time... there used to be a great person at Levi's who authenticated pieces. I believe she's retired but when's you call the 800 # or email them and find out if anyone else can help you.

    This was their response:

"Thanks for reaching out and congratulations on the great find. We appreciate your interest, but we are unable to provide any additional information on the historical significance or potential value of vintage Levi's brand products or memorabilia.
We no longer offer the service of providing additional information, value or dating of the Levi's products you may have. The good news is there are plenty of other resources to help you with your research.
We suggest checking out the conversations on blogs such as Denim-Hunt and Denimology. Also, look out for more information on the #Archivesseries."
