This is the dress, which I think is a square dance dress from the 1940s or early 50s The fabric is cotton. What do you see in this print? I can't tell whether it is Penn. Dutch-style, Native American-style...or what!
First thing that came to my mind......cross stitch and a turkey bird! A little bit of a folk art look. But then upon another look, something made me think of American Indian motifs.
I was sailing those waters myself. The "pixelated" edges obviously represent some sort of stitching or weaving pattern. First Thanksgiving reference? So many of these small folksy prints are PA Dutch, so I did think that too. I hadn't thought of windmills... Maybe? Thank you for your thoughts!
I see the ladies and the turkey...I am wondering what all the "X" are about. Looks like a folk art print to me.
Not PA Dutch. I live in the area. I see this print on those 40s 50s Guatemala skirts. I cant Find any good examples on etsy etc. Most are newer and not true prints . They used a lot of birds and Xs
I’m late to this party, but I wanted to add that it looks like the women are displaying, or pointing to weaving or quilts(?). The pattern definitely looks like a play on cross-stitch to me. It looks very Americana. Someone did mention Guatemala.... there ARE lots of turkeys in that country. Some very odd little details. Are those rolling pins with +++ on them? Thanks for sharing this! I love a good garment puzzle.
