What is this fabric?

    I'm unsure what this fabric is? It looks like embroidered plastic threads

    Looks as though it might be a raffia straw that was lacquered.

    I agree that the "beading" looks like raffia made from straw but it appears to be applied or woven into on into a plain crepe like ground. It looks like the skirt is made from the same fabric as the top - minus the raffia. Is the raffia or whatever the beaded part is made from stitched through at any point or glued on?

    The top part with the raffia is actually a sheer material with it stitched on - here are some photos. I didn't think to photograph that which is pretty important in determining the material!! Sorry!
