    XL daywear, 40\'s,50\'s, 30\'s?

I rarely come across daywear! And in my size! I need a few dresses, I can wear to "work".

My waist size is 38", my legs are a bit longer than my torso, and concurrent with todays fashion, I might resemble a petite extra large... Hems are easily dealt with!

Everything I come across looks like dowdy grandma clothes, I was hoping someone here might have something!

I wear rayon, wool, and cotton.

Knits, or synthetics feel stuffy to me. I might consider a wool knit jacket, or sweater.

I wear mainly (always) black. I like: mostly red, pink, green, brown. Unfortunately I rarely wear white, blue or purple, not ruling it out yet.

I would like dresses, skirts, blouses (yes please! ESPECIALLY!!!!!), and suits.

I favour wool gabardine, rayon, rayon gabardine, cotton, circle skirts (I know, not flattering!) and SUITS galore.

Thank you for reading this!! (if you managed to get this far!)

Post here, or U2U me, if you would prefer.

(I dislike sounding like a solicitor! (U.S. Version))

    Merci, Gracias, Bitte, Cheers!

    Thank you!

  2. Sandi, I recommend 1940s dresses especially - they seem to often come in larger sizes and in rayon crepe. They're flattering for curvier shapes, I especially like plunging cross over bodices which I wear with a contrasting petticoat (eg, pale pink or cream) underneath. I avoid seperates because they're less comfortable and flattering (I'm a larger size too).

I find many on ebay, at fairly good prices - plain frocks can be jazzed up with accessories.

Here's a nice one at Dorothea's Closet. It would look great with the top button or two undone and a nice colourful petticoat underneath.

Hi Sandi - There is a VFG "friend" (Elisa) who specializes in plus sized vintage.

Perhaps something will pop up there?

Sandi, I do have some XL things in stock; not sure of sizing, but when I'm down in my work area later today, I'll see what I have. I know I have a NOS dress & jacket set that is really sharp, but can't recall the size....

I'll let you know if I come across anything.

Thank you! I haven't found much yet. I am thinking of sewing some things, to get my sewing skills up. A dry cleaner nearby wanted $30 some odd dollars to fix a hem, I figured I better get my act together and re-learn how to do it. I have more time than money!

I have a lovely Shelton Stroller dress that is Green/black, and for all intents and purposes new, 3/4 sleeves, very thin material that is a synthetic blend of some kind. Vintage size 20 1/2, 38 inch waist 47 inch bust, 44 inches in length. Lovely dress with a matching belt that I have not put up yet. I also have some silk early 60s dresses in larger sizes but they are short sleeved and blue so I was waiting for the Spring.

These are quick shots but you can contact me thru my e-bay store if you are interested. Keep in mind though that it is a synthetic blend and I'm sure it has some rayon but isn't all rayon. It is also pretty light weight - sheer enough to have to wear a slip underneath. But it is definately not dowdy and would flatter a larger figure. Terri

After testing again I'm pretty sure it is nylon and I know you said you feel stuffy in synthetics.

  11. Hi Sandi!

I just popped a great navy gabardine suit into my listings on Ebay~ and am in the process of adding some great "healthy girl" size blouses as well.

    THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

I have been looking and searching everyones websites. So far nothing has "spoken" to me. (Or is too small :/ :()

Even a dress I bought, which I "thought" I could fit into, doesn't. 34" waist, hand made, no zippers, gets tight when I try to slip it over my head. Instant paranoia hits, and I believe I will be trapped in the dress, or tear it!!

Unfortunately, I went to Tarjhay's (Target's) website, and found a couple skirts that qualify as "retro" (strong dislike for that word, I don't know why.)

And I picked up a couple patterns, one that could be a 30's look, the other 50's.

I may as well try to sew, since I have a stack of items that need repair! (And time to do it)

It just feels so odd to me, never in my life have I NOT gotten, AT LEAST a call back. Hrm.

I called Monster Vintage back, he seemed happy that I called to see if he had made a decision, and then NOTHING.

I dunno. My gut tells me to work more on doing etsy, than look for a job, as it is becoming clearer each day, that there is little to look forward to!

    So sorry for the YACKING!!

    Sandi
