The Fashion History Museum was founded in 2004 by Jonathan Walford and Kenn Norman. The museum received its non-profit status in March 2009 and opened in its current home in June 2015. The collection includes over 3,000 books and periodicals and 4,000 donated artifacts as well as over 8,000 promised artifacts from Jonathan Walford's private collection, deemed the 'Founder's Collection'. The collection contents date from the 17th century to the present with some additional ancient pieces including archaeological jewellery and a sample of 3,000 year old Egyptian linen.
