I love this hat! I think it will look fantastic with my Edwardian era dress. Any idea as to when it dates to? I’d also love some suggestions as to what direction it would go in on your head. I feel like one of the points would be in the front but I really have no idea. Thank you!

That sure is a beauty. I would place it right around 1910-1911. The style is a take off on a military bicorn or tricorn hat. I would wear it somewhere between your 1st photo and the 3rd. If you can find the seam in the lining, that will give you an idea of how the milliner intended it to be worn on the head. A good rule is that the seam should go in the center back of the wearer's head, approximately , depending on the style.

It really is tremendous! One of my favorite styles also.

Gorgeous! I vote for the bicorn effect as well.

I’m going to eventually donate it to the historical society in Lockport NY. I called to inquire about Olson Brothers and was told there was an Olson’s specialty and dry goods store on Main St in Lockport from 1896-1927. They sold all kinds of merchandise, including hats. =)

Sorry it took me a few days. I don’t have an era accurate underdress to go with it but I think this 90s blue formal works for now, or at least the color sort of pops.

    Hi,

    The blue works just fine.

The hat is lovely and Barbara says it all, it is as Edwardian as you can get and lends its self to
Mens military or ceremonial head wear.

I'm not sure if the hat lining is original but it doesn't matter, lovely.

Maybe when it comes time for you to dispose of and other photos required, an understated, wide choker necklace perhaps.

The lining looks just fine to me. Why do you suspect it is not original?
