Viva Las Vegas 60th Anniversary
The year was 1964. A 28 year-old Elvis Presley had already cranked-out more than a dozen fairly forgettable films, but then came Viva Las Vegas! Paired with 22 year-old rising star Ann-Margret, their on screen (and off-screen!) chemistry was incendiary, translating into box office gold! Shot in saturated, eye-popping Metrocolor, it featured a winning combination - catchy tunes, a glimpse of a glamorous, glittering early 1960s Las Vegas replete with showgirls from the Folies Bergere, and most significantly, two sensual, charismatic lead actors. Despite a razor-thin plot, Viva Las Vegas went on to become Elvis' most commercially successful film. Basically, a rock 'n' roll musical with car racing thrown in, the story follows the competition between two race car drivers who also compete for the same girl. Wanna place a wager on who wins?? No need to gamble! Brightly colored wiggle dresses, form-fitting maillots, knit tops paired with tights and kitten heels or stilettos, men's narrow shawl collared sharkskin suits, flat front trousers and skinny ties are all sure things!
