Looks like a great haul there! If you can throw 'em on a wig/mannequin head, that'd help me and others out.
for sure, I am visiting my aforementioned mom with no mannequins in sight but these are all coming back w me at the end of the week so I will update!
You have a wonderful bunch of hats, and yes, some are very old. When you can show them on a manny head, and show the interiors, we can definitely help you date them correctly. What a nice find!
ok here are some pics of the various hats- I will split into a few posts. Sorry in advance if some are on backwards. I didn't bend the brims on any bc didn't want to mess any up! Up first, two very delicate/ not great condition bonnet types
sunhats. 1: green flowers and open top, 2. tan with big brim on one side, 3. black w weird shape, 4. ribbons and open top, 5. brown w tag let me know what you guys think!
The first two bonnets are, I think, early 1850s maybe late 40s. The two next black bonnets are late 1850s/early 1860s spoon bonnets for mourning, the first one is made of black crape, which a lot of mourning collectors like - the second one is missing the bonnet ties but its the same as the black crape bonnet. The next two straw hats I am interested in... And the rest are all 1940s/50s summer hats. Like the last one the best with the green velvet flowers.
Like Jonathan, I find the 2 small childrens (?) hats the most interesting. I am super super curious as to what the off white hat is made of (the second one in the photos there). Could you possibly take a close up photo of the "straw" or crinoline whatever it is that makes up the hat? I have to know!! Thanks for sharing these.
thanks everyone for all your help with these- I just listed them on ebay as auctions with low starting prices. Hopefully they all find good homes!
