A Berry Big Deal!

Dozens of actresses wore it on the red carpets of this year’s awards ceremonies. Scores of male and female celebrities wore it onsite at New York and London Fashion Week, while an equal number of models wore it on the runways of luxury designers Valentino, Versace, Gucci and Hermès. A royal princess wore it – or rather re-wore it – at her first major charity event post-chemo. And paparazzi recorded many of the rich and famous wearing it as they went about their everyday business.

What is it? It is one of the most popular color families of the last two fashion seasons: dark, berry-colored reds.

If you’re a classicist, think burgundy, maroon, oxblood or cordovan. Into wine? Then it’s merlot, Bordeaux or claret. For a fruit or veggie vibe, consider aubergine, plum or black cherry. Or, if you’re into making up names, try Rum Raisin, Red Dahlia and Fired Brick (Pantone) or Gucci Rosso, the new signature hue of the House of Gucci.

Whether it’s worn monochromatically head to toe or only a pop of accent here and there, this almost neutral color will add richness and elegance to your fall into winter wardrobe. And guess what? This isn’t the first time in fashion history that berry tones have been a "big deal." See for yourself as you check out these beautiful vintage examples from our member sellers.
