Vintage Brands (circa 60's and 70's)

Hi all. I just uncovered a lot of my mother's clothing from when she was young. They've all been kept in cold storage inside chests, so all kept well. These brands are Emilio Pucci, Escada, Lanvin, Jean Damien, Rad Paris, Ted Lapidus). Most of these, just from looking at the designs, are things I saw my mom wear when I was just a kid, so definitely not worn since the late 70s or early 80s. A couple things are from the 80s. What is the best way to handle these? (I'm her son, and will not be wearing them). I googled what I could, and see some priced as low as $80, and as high as in the $1000's.

You don't say where you are nor what your goal, but with this kind of collection, if you're not a seller, I'd probably sell on consignment through a seller with whom you have a good report. Though I could myself on an Etsy or eBay etc, I've been doing just this with my husband's things, in a brick and mortar boutique setting. For what they are (vintage western boots, hats, etc), it's been the best for making money AND them being in a place for people to try them on. Your pieces here might not need that dressing room element per se, BUT they will get more eyes.

You could sell outright to a dealer or collector too but do your research first so you get a fair price. Yes, the prices are all over the place... these pieces I see here are considered investment pieces and are timeless though.

I've also bought/sold such items myself through Craigslist and FB marketplace. Mixed bag there but stuff moves. Lots of bottom feeders.

Great items...be sure when you are researching to try to see price sold items as sellers can ask a lot and hold onto items for a long time or actually accept offers.
It's best to get a handle on similar items. Make a list with various prices you have found and then price with what you feel comfortable with. You can try online yourself to sell or google the local vintage shops in your area, make sure they sell older vintage pieces as a lot of the newer vintage stores are into denim and t-shirts, cowboy boots, leather jackets, etc. You need somebody who really buys true older vintage. Your mom had good taste!

Hi thanks for responding. I finally figured out how to use this so sorry for the late re-reply. I guess I'm trying to find a way how to sell. I took a look at Poshmark, but it's so complicated compared to selling stuff like paintings and electronics, that I'm more familiar with.

Thank you. She definitely did. I'm now overwhelmed as I found her silk scar collection as well. I have no idea how to sell this. I'll take your advice on finding vintage stores in my area, which I hope isn't hard to find in Los Angeles.

If you're in LA (as am I), there is no shortage of high-end brick & mortar vintage sellers at your fingertips for both consignment and straight-out sales. Feel free to send me a DM and I will share some suggestions of reputable dealers.

Can we list our LA VFG members here, as a starting point, for this gentleman? I'd be happy to list the members, but want to know if that is acceptable to the group.

AND, sending a message to Marsha @Ranch Queen Vintage is a fabulous idea!! She is great and reputable.

@ivoryringlord, your items are great, and I know I would have liked your Mom!! Good for you, for being interested in finding the proper place to pass these on to a good home. Some folks simply bag 'em up, and take 'em to Goodwill, which is a big oopsemoti!

what an amazing wardrobe your mother collected! and, here's another vote for you to contact Marsha of Ranch Queen Vintage. if you hover over her avatar/name (or the link i've just added), you will see it's a clickable link that gives you the option to send her a direct message as she's suggested. Marsha is terrific, and has an outstanding reputation.
