Waist higher at the back of these retro pants, what would you call this style?

I'm struggling to find info on this waist style, I suspect they're from the 80s.

Would you please show the labels? And are these men's or women's? Are they cropped in length?

they sure look 80s to me! i don't recall that there was a term for the waist being higher in the back, just that they were high waist pants. also, once they're on a body, that "extra" might be part of what covers the bum in back (since it's not usually flat)

The Hollywood waistband was my favorite style of trousers back in the 80s, I had several pairs!
I agree that the extra back length is simply to be sure the bum is covered adequately, it's not a particular style feature. In fact, even laying my current mid-rise and high-waist pairs of jeans flat on the floor shows the backs higher than the fronts.

Thanks for the info!

I’m not sure if these count as a fishtail waist but it’s similar. Fishtail waist is higher at the back and split like this, but usually more so than yours, and, crucially, have buttons at each point , and at the front, for attaching braces/suspenders. Maybe these are a later version when braces were no longer common.

Here’s a thread on the fedora lounge about fishtail trousers
