Hi everybody,

I came across with the jacket in the picture.

The thing is : I can’t tell if it’s real leopard or not. It could be printed fur but I found no information on how to recognize real leopard on internet (I also checked this forum which is why I am here now :)).

If anyone has any information or could give your opinion on this piece, I would gladly take it !

Thanks again to anyone reading (and hopefully responding) to my question,
Hyaern

Hi to the both of you, thanks for the quick answer that’s absolutely lovely !

Here is the photo of the back. Next to it is another coat that is supposed to be real (the long one)

I tried to compare and to identify recurring patterns but I am not sure if I have the « eye » for it.

The long one comes from E. Impe Lambred (?) Kuurne (pelsenfrabriek) but I found no information about it on internet

Oooooh, sorry for the misunderstanding.

I will try to see if I can obtain a picture through the hole in the sleeve.

Is it gonna look like “leather” or is it gonna be more like the velour of a shearling jacket ?

Hi there. Pretty jacket. It does look faux, but it was dyed and stamped with rosette shaped like spotting to make it look like leopard.
The Geoffroy’s cat fur coat you showed us an example of has spotting too, however the spotting is peppered which is different.
The hind side of real fur when in good condition feels like soft leather.

I see a lot of rabbit dyed for exemple.

Without seing the piece in itself it’s quite difficult to know if it’s real or not.

Do you have a big list of the different big cats fur on this forum ? I tried to look around a little bit. Because it’s -within absolute reason- an endangered animal not a lot of info can be found on internet (I am not sure about the reliability)

Here is another long coat advised “genuine leopard”. Is it closer to real leopard for example ?

Thanks a lot for your answer, I am so glad to have found this forum !

The fur shown in this photo that was asked about is real, has a jaguar pattern, and I'd date it to the 40s. Jaguar has been listed as being near threatened within the International Union for Conservation of Nature since 2016, and is not allowed to be commercially traded without a permit of exemption, regardless of age. It's still okay to have, wear, and care for if it's already in your closet. :)

Definitely looks like faux fur; the real test is touch, only real fur has that soft spring to it. But if you can check the actual back of the fabric if it’s faux it will be woven and not a hide.
