Unlabeled vintage dress - 40s? 50s?

Hello everyone,

I recently bought this vintage dress. There are no labels, it's missing a belt, and there's a Lion metal side zip.

Any help in dating it?

Thanks!

Construction looks right for mid-ish last century.

I’m not seeing 40s. To me the length looks more early 60s than 50s. It’s a bit hard to tell on the hanger. Also depends if it’s petite overall (ie short bodice, made for a shorter woman), rather than shorter in the skirt

Side zips were slightly more common earlier though, back zips became more usual as the decades went on, but with home sewn or dressmaker sewn, which this probably is, anything is possible.

With the pinked seams, side metal zip and what appears to be short length, my guess would 1960s. Although, as mentioned, it could perhaps be 50s if it is either a petite size or has been shortened. As it appears homemade, it could even be made from an earlier pattern at a later date.

It's hard to tell the length, could you provide the measurement? The other measurements may also be useful to help decipher if the sizing is petite or regular.

Thank you everyone for your input. 40s are out. I'm not a seller, just a vintage enthousiast who likes to learn.

I think the dress seemed a bit shorter in pictures than in real life. My bad for not including measurements. It's 40 inches long. For reference, I'm 5'5" and it hits me below the knee.
