    Dye and angora...

I wouldn't normally even contemplate 'experimenting', but I feel sad about this dress! My friends mother gave it to me for 'a good home': she'd kept it as it was the last Christmas she spent with her Dad alive who had commented on how nice she looked (I well up thinking about her telling me)...

    Dye and angora...

I know, it really is last ditch. I have a feeling that the wool will felt up or disentegrate even on a cold water dye though. I may go ask my dry cleaner but he will probably suck his breath in through is teeth slowly (he does that, like when you ask a builder for a best quote..) and tell me...

    Dye and angora...

I am thinking they may not mix, but I have one of those dresses where I either need to do something drastic so I can wear it myself, or it gets cut up (gasp, I know) for projects.. and it is a gorgeous pale blue angora 60 sweater dress with BIIIIG splodges of sun fade on the front that have...

Making a leg form ( my new project)

Fantastic - much better than my cardboard fingers :D You are good to do a workshop! I had thought about inflated rubber gloves and all sorts for glove-forms, but think i shall just get some cheap perspex ones or buy up old glove dryers. So what's your next project then Paul? :)

    I cracked and bought a..

Well, I am pleased with it but I sadly cannot throw out my old iron or hand steamer. It does remove wrinkles.. but for cotton dresses you will definitely not get the finish you would with an iron or even a hand steamer. Maybe I am just a bit of a perfectionist but I seem to have to go over...

original purchase price of cc41 dress?

I think it's about correct. In the link Heather gave me it lists the average prices during ww2, which are very useful. Average gents suit cost during the war was 55 shillings, so I think that would make this dress a little pricy but not ghastly. It is nice, honestly; I would have paid for it...

original purchase price of cc41 dress?

You're all super, and helped very much. Thank you, now I can get finished!! p.s. Heather, that link about the clothing is really interesting, I'd never come across it before and it is quite detailed! Shall read more when I get my work out of the way, here's a link for others to the front...

original purchase price of cc41 dress?

Am just listing very sweet CC41 labelled summer dress, which has what looks to be the price of 31 /- (or is it 36 /- ( /- being shillings) Shall add a pic. What say you? 31 or 36? Either wouldn't make it a super cheap dress, but not over the top expensive. Just wondered out of interest...

    does anybody know...

I probably should have made that clearer- by part time/hobbyists I basically meant people that do a stall a few times a year at a flea market, or people who decide to sell off their late granny's wardrobe over a month on ebay and never deal in vintage again - and therefore are very unlikely to...

me again....mens shoes help with dating

Ah, so maybe it's a different era then. I always thought the Young Edwardians referred to the teddy boy movement in the late 50s early 60s (teddy being short for edward)?
