Chris I feel for you! I was at a costume auction the other month and one of the ladies was wearing a big black fur coat which she quite obviously stored in mothballs. If she stood near me for more than 5 minutes I had to go and move as it just make me feel exactly the same, sick and headache-y...
Lei you look great! I am sooooo not photogenic, I just downloaded the pictures and it isn't good, LOL!
The dress looks like it was made for you
I got THE best 40s jacket from my secret santa, and some other vintage goodies which was just wonderful
The only other vintage I got was a silver 70s pendant from finland (the same maker as my grandmothers one I've asked about on here before). It's very cool, shaped like a littel...
Wow Sara, you look gorgeous! That colour is lovely - Peggy French stuff is very nicely made. Love the bag too...
I failed miserably as I was feeling rather rough on Christmas morning - NOT simply down to too much Chrismas eve sherry but I think my flueyness had subsided only temporarily to...
I think that's definitely good advice about concentrating on your 'comfort zone' first, if you know what I mean. I love any thing vintage or antiqu but to be honet as I feel so uninformed about earlier things I purposely avoid buying them as I feel like I won't do them justice because my...
Jenn, I felt all sniffly about the thought of full time school but mine loves it so much that it's really a brilliant thing all round. Plus you get to try to keep work to school times so at weekends you can do family stuff. Like going buying, lol :D
I always use Christmas as an excuse to get dolled up and go visiting in a vintage outfit (I don't get out much otherwise, except to the pub and that's just flared jeans and a 70s top!) so have been thinking about my outfit for Monday.
I have a few choices, and will make sure to post a picture...
1. Do you stock retro and vintage or just one or the other?
Vintage. If retro is 80s then I will if it is very cool (in my opinion!)
2. Which type sells best?
For me, vintage.
3. What kind of people generally buy each type of clothing?
Vintage clothing goes to collectors...
Oh Kristine, I do suck at the fur questions.. Can see why you thought it was a cape initially. I think if the sleeves are the same length as the coat then you would be justified in calling it cropped.
(Hoping someone more helpful wanders by.... :BAGUSE: )
Thanks guys! Boudior slippers should indeed be easier to come by than satin babydolls in ivory that haven't been scuffed to oblivion... Will pass that on!
Had a customer ask about the style of shoes to go with this 40s dress
And I am having a hard time finding any, as I have none! Don't need to be actual wedding shoes, just to give her an idea of shape
TIA :)
I think you can do it relatively simply - it just depends how fancy you want it to be, and how 'designed' a look you want.
If you have a name in mind it may be worth registering the domain name as you can do that yourself if it's free, and it shouldn't be at all expensive. probably worth...
I am terrible at pricing! And yes what people are prepared to pay does come into it.
I think the main things to consider (in no particular order) are rarity, condition, size (wearable/hard to find/displayable), and of course it finally comes down to overall desirability/demand.
There is...
Am with you on the Vogue etc. Jonathan. My favourite book to browse through when I am bored is In Vogue (pub about 1979?) - Six Decades of Fashion by Georgina Howell.
Lots of gorgeous prints from each year of the magazine with little runway reports etc. and lovely high fashion 20c stuff! It's...
Oh, the arm thing is so true. Although I suppose I would take them if someone made mine like that..
Tara Reid's dress is just a really unfortunate choice (9 of 31 pics).
Not for fur, leather or suede I'm afraid Linda :( I got a very strong smoky (cigarette) smell out of a prom dress yesterday though..
I am not sure on date, I get scared pre 1920 (well, 1940!). Do you have a picture of the lining, and the finishing inside? It sounds lovely.
