Interesting that some sources like Britannica say 1948 though I am sure you have done more research on this than me. I wonder if it is for a relatively short period of time if anyone would have ever noticed until they ran out of stock

I can’t really make out the photo of the union label. Do you have a clearer photo? But to answer your question, I think it’s totally possible that they had some leftover labels that were used into the following year. Also as far as I know, Orlon was invented in the 1940s and trademarked in 1948...

I am not certain of the age though it looks quite modern to me but I can tell you that the 1973 isn’t when it’s from. Many Italian labels read "A NORMA LEGGE N. 883 26/11/1973" (or similar) which is Italy's care and fiber content labelling law. The date is its effective date in November 1973...

This looks very similar to your dress. The ad is form 1973 but I think your dress may be a bit older, I would say 60s
