I think early 60s. That mesh bead-type fabric was used a lot around that period. And the 50s and 60s featured some of the coolest-looking clasps I've seen on bags. Your clasp is great! It might be late 50s, as the zipper looks old, but I get more of a 60s' feel, with that leather or vinyl trim...

I agree about it being '90s. I have a dress and jacket ensemble of my own very similar to this that I got in the mid '90s, if I remember correctly. I really like that detailing.

Even with a bit of a longer vest length than cropped, I still think 60s. In the 70s, I remember wearing longer vests. If you did the burn test and it's pretty conclusive that it's not synthetic, it's probably silk. Looks like bengaline silk to me. And the outfit looks like it's in great shape.

Are there any labels on either piece? Is the vest a short, cropped style? At a glance, I think 60s, and the colors would be right for then, too. Can we see a close-up of the fabric? Not for dating, but I'd like to see the weave. The luster makes me think it could be silk and not synthetic, but...

I agree with Linn that it's cotton in a barkcloth texture. And those little ruffles at neckline and sleeves look very 60s to me.

Yes; with the added detail showing, that late 30s/very early 40s dating looks good. You should keep it and enjoy wearing it; it does look great on you! And you'll never see anyone wearing the same coat.... :)

From the dating and the looks of it (not the close-up, but the sleeve photo), I'd say rayon crepe, but it's really impossible to tell at a distance, so to speak. You'd need to do a burn test if there's a bit you can snip. Weave alone, which shows in your close-up, can't identify the fiber, such...

I find that when I have something I want to post here, I crop out as much background as possible, and re-size the photos to be anywhere from around 300 to 350 px wide. That way we're seeing the item itself "up closer" and not extraneous background. HTH!

It's lovely, and I, too, am in the early 90s' camp on this. In fact, I almost bought a dress very, very similar to this in 1991 when planning my wedding, but opted for a different style. The neckline, bodice, and sleeves were almost identical to your dress!
