    Men's gloves - ?s

Probably the 60s dating is good, though I think they could be 70s as well--seems this style was around for quite some time. Are they deerskin (they look like it, though not quite as pebbled as some I've seen)? They are very handsome! I would go ahead and call them riding or driving gloves, even...

    Help me describe this color

On my monitor, it looks the color that I've called goldenrod... which is really kind of mustardy but I think it sounds better! It's not looking as bright as saffron or daffodil or canary yellow to me. Maize is good, too! And, regardless the color, it is a very lovely dress!

Please help me date this Liberty House dress...

Adorable dress! And another vote for mid 60s. I have one (not a LH) with the bows above the double slits, and the same shaping, and I was estimating that at mid 60s, so I'll go the same with yours....

    Vintage in 1974

Oh, wow! Hot vintage wear on hot gals! And I do think the last dress was modern (really cute, though), but those others--oh, boy, baby....

Pretty 50's PINK Strapless Party Dress

Thanks, Marty.... I'd have it as a wedding dress, if I were getting married, and if it fit me! LOL....

What to wear with my new Adele Simpson dress?

I totally agree with the Mary Janes, though if you can't find black patents, I'd pull a color from the print in the dress. Or some chunky-heeled Pilgrim-style shoes would be accurate for the 60's vibe as well, or T-straps with a low to mid, chunky heel. Those looks were all worn with mini...

think i just heard my mannequin purr

So sleek, Mary--keep 'er if you're anywhere near fitting into her! I think this style of Suzy is too often overlooked for the big-skirted ones. But their wiggle-style & sheath dresses were oh, so chic! I let one go for a song a couple years ago; kinda wish I'd kept it.

This is hilarious and oddly vintage related

OMG... I was doing OK, just chuckling at this trip down memory lane, till I got to the guys' shirt with the built-in bib (or trap door for chest hair). Burst out laughing so hard I almost wet my pants, and laughed till I cried. I was in my 20s in 1977, and God, we really did wear that...

    If the "Vintage Genie" visited....

Well, it IS so hard to pick just one, so the vintage genie has advised she would--should she visit--grant us each three wishes.... First on my list is this dress I GAVE, yes, GAVE away to charity when we moved--this was before I started selling vintage and before it was really "in," but I'd...

    If the "Vintage Genie" visited....

If the \"Vintage Genie\" visited.... ....you one day and granted you one wish only, whatever piece of vintage apparel or accessory you wanted, what would you choose? Would it be any piece from a favorite designer; a specific style, regardless of maker; a very specific piece you've eyed with...

    R.I.P. Natasha Richardson

This is so sad and tragic. I can't stop thinking about how her two young sons, who are my oldest son's age, must be so devastated and lost without their mommy. Of course, tragic for all of her family, but especially for the children. What's even sadder is that the first ambulance sent for...

I'd have a hard time parting with that, too. The colors are wonderful, and just right for spring!

Cleaning blood out of 40s rayon.

Regarding Whink, I have some and have tried it several times, without much success. Is there a trick to using it, or will it only work on certain types of stains? I know that many people seem to swear by it, by so far I haven't seen why....

I'm out of my element here - Please help!

Candy, you done good! That. is. awesome. Is that print metallic by any chance? If so, I'd call this a 50's BLACK pin-up metallic (or floral)-print open bottom corset girdle. If that'll fit.... Or some such. As mentioned, corset isn't really accurate, but people call them that anyway. This...

My weekend find - Ossie Clark Celia Birtwell - and a few ?s

Let me be the 2nd to say, "OMG!" What a find! It's delightful! Definitely stitch up the loose seam if you're hand with thread & needle (doesn't sound a dicey repair at all), and if you don't trust your cleaner, don't send it. But if the dress is structurally sound and the stain is indeed...

    Retro Look - Current Fashion

Yes, Linn, I was "window" shopping in Ross the other day, and noticed several retro-look pieces. There was a shirtwaist dress by Anne Klein that I loved and which looked very 50s inspired. I just listed a Talbot's vintie-inspired shirtwaist on eBay last night...

    snakeskin or...?

Sara, is that what it is when there is a clear surface over the skin? I didn't realize it is a patent veneer. I've seen them before, and those are really hard for me to tell if they're real or not. Wow, I learn something new every day! So, you would "feel" around the scales to see if they lift...

    Another dating question....

Thanks, Mary & Nicole! Early 70s, then. In person, much harder to tell till you see the jacket.... And I'm going to feature it without the jacket, since that has some holes at back, and I think it looks far nicer without anyway (but I will include a small shot of it with, in case anyone would...

    snakeskin or...?

It's hard to tell from a photo, but this looks emobossed to me. If real, you might see some scale edges lifting a bit, and there seems to be too much "space" between the scales on your close-up. And, from what I can tell the pattern looks too symmetrical to be genuine snakeskin. Honestly...

    Another dating question....

This silk chiffon dress, by Rona (one of those very nice quality names, not upscale designer stuff, but much nicer than average off the rack), has me stumped. Without its little jacket, it looks very solidly 60s to me, with its natural fitted waistline, small rolled/standup collar, metal zipper...

Need help with this Lanvin men's blazer, please

Need help with this Lanvin men\'s blazer, please I recently bought this men's Lanvin blazer/jacket, and am unsure of the dating. Would this be 70s? Or is it a newer jacket? The label looks a lot like the 70's ones in our label resources, as do the checked pattern and the colors. The lapels are...

    Whatchamacallit these sleeves?

Hmmm..... It's sort of a shortened bishop sleeve, or a modified flounced sleeve. There must be a "real" name for it, as these sleeves are not uncommon, but I don't know what that would be! I'd probably call it a "modified bishop sleeve," for lack of a more technical term....
