Help w/date & style name for felt cov'd wire frame hat w/feather flowers. Thanks!

What a great hat! I'd love to see it "on." And, goodness, I'd forgotten all about the term "whimsy," and yes, I remember these being called that when I was a little girl.

OK, what's in for prom season?

OK, what\'s in for prom season? I have two boys, neither of whom is old enough for proms yet, thank the lord.... So I'm blissfully unaware of what the girls are looking at for proms. As always, I assume the big, full-skirt party dress is in, but what else? Long dresses at all, simple, fancy...

    Whiting & Davis Bag

Linn, very cute bag! It looks pristine! And I think that clasps on vintage bags are my favorite thing about them--you don't see the variety or imaginative-ness in them in today's bags! How do you clean the outside of it, or have you ever had to? I have a similar W & D bag, though with metal...

What type of pants are these?

Very cool pants! And, we always, always called these bell-bottoms. "Hippie bell-bottoms," as someone else suggested, would be a perfect description. These would not have been called flares by those of us old enough to have worn them the first time around. The design was likely part of the entire...

Deco Paris Beauty Bittin' the Dust. Ideas or Cry w/Me!

KK, it's beautiful; I can see why you would have jumped at it without necessarily taking the time to fully assess it! I would keep it intact for a store display, or put it for sale as a study or pattern piece. For display, instead of just keeping it on a hanger, do you have enough wall space...

    Late 60's? Geoffrey Beene.

Very cute dress! Are the top & bottom two different fabrics? It almost appears that the top is a knitted fabric and the bottom a woven one. If the top is knitted and could be seen through (at the "holes"), then perhaps that's why it's lined, or if it's wool (so as not to scratch, but this...

    2009 Couture Wedding Gowns

Being somewhat of a traditionalist, I adore the 2nd Galliano for Dior one (the Delft is really cute, but it would take a certain kind of woman and a certain type of wedding to pull it off!). I really like the Dolce & Gabbana, too.... strangely enough. Like the styling on the Beccaria, but I...

Have you seen a handbag like this!

Well, I just KNEW I wasn't losing my mind! The family & I went to the antique co-op yesterday for the afternoon, and, thinking I was remembering seeing a wicker bag with seashells and things on it on the boards here (but not remembering for sure!), I grabbed the coolest Princess Charming by...

Black dress need help with dating and design??

I agree with Carrie, no later than 50s. And possibly quite early 50s. Also agree that the tucked or pleated treatment on the front is awesome! Now, what size did you say that was.... I did read "too big" for the manni. Does that mean it might fit a real live, real-size person? (Like moi, for...

Help & Advice on cleaning Leather gloves!

If the gloves are stamped "washable," you can wash them by putting them on plastic glove driers, swishing them about in lukewarm sudsy water (I use Woolite), rinsing well, and hanging to dry. They won't feel as soft as they were, but rub in some of that fabulous Cadillac leather conditioner and...

    Help with terrible odor removal

I've just read in my "How to Clean Everything" book that soaking in warm water & salt is recommended for washable fabrics. But this wouldn't be soakable, but maybe you could try throwing some salt in with the vodka, then dabbing that mixture on. If it does't work, you can make yourself a...

Dating & kind of snake on this Kelly bag?

I'm not 100% sure about the issue of the handle, but I've heard it repeated enough that it's either true or Lasting Urban Legend. The term itself is, I guess, kind of like "Xerox," where any reprographic copy ended up being called a Xerox, regardless of who made the machine.... Although it's...

Dating & kind of snake on this Kelly bag?

Thanks, all! Carrie, I'd never heard of whipsnake myself until recently, and I've seen a lot of these black snakeskins called "whipsnake." I guess the snake is a fairly common one, but I wouldn't know, as snakes & I do not get along very nicely. Linn, if you would see and feel this in person...

Dating & kind of snake on this Kelly bag?

Can anyone help date this better? I'm listing this today, and can't decide if this is late 50s or solidly 60s, or cusper.... Its bottom feet are large, more like older bags than newer ones. I'm not normally a "skin" buyer, but this bag is really cute and in such wonderful condition, I couldn't...

Customer Searching for Train Case !!

I love train cases, but the ones I find around here are usually in awful condition--linings ripping out from under the frames, or stained. Or the shells are cracked. Now, how on earth does one crack a Samsonite case? I have a set of Samsonite luggage my parents gave me for graduation in 1972...

Lanvin Dress - is this late 60's/early 70's?

I think this is early 70s--the print, the collar, etc., all seem into the early 70s and out of the 60s. Love the print! I have a Lanvin downstairs (not as cute) about the same era--I'll check to see how the sizing compares. But I'd be surprised if this wasn't around 1971 to '73.

Too cute, Mary! Great photos, but where the hell are you, at -19???? Antarctica? Or maybe Minnesota, or North Dakota, or upper Saskatchewan.... (same as Antarctica this time of year). Yikes! And I think we're freezin' here at a balmy +20 in the mornings.

    What do you think?

None of the seaming seems to match anywhere; it's all willy nilly.... I can't imagine this is genuine Chanel (if so, the workmanship is not very meticulous). Don't know a thing about the label.... The fabric looks nice, though!

Just 2 more sets , Pendletons suits

I agree with Mary above on the dating... I think Pendleton are tough to date, because the styles are classic and though they change with the overall trends of their eras, they don't typically exhibit any overstated or blatant style effects. And the labels look "old" even on their newer things!

Im getting a 70s vibe on this jumpsuit

Ver ychic! I would put this as into the mid 70s, maybe a hair later, rather than earlier 70's. The top is very reminiscent of the "goddess" gown dresses that were popular. It looks great on you!
