That is a great dress. I love the print! To me, the print and fabric look very late 1940s (1947-1950). This leads me to think that the dress may be home made in the 1950s, of a fabric that was made in the late 40s. Or it could be a late 1940s dress that has been shortened. Just my...
That is one fabulous coat. I would date it to the very early 1930s. I have successfully steamed out wrinkles from this type of velvet, it is likely silk pile on a rayon back, but could be all silk. Steam it from behind if you can, and take care about getting any water on it, as steamers can...
Very pretty color. My guess is late 80s ish, with that hip wrap thing going on. The pleating looks much like broomstick pleats, sort of the poor mans' Fortuny pleats.
Wondering what other will think.
That is a very attractive dress and I love the pattern and colors. Just from the photos, I see very late 1930s to very early 1940s. Can you show a close up of the fabric? If it is a rayon crepe, that might indicate it is from that time period. It may have been shortened, although the length...
Very pretty. Looks like a 1950s jacket made to go over a matching evening dress or sleeveless cocktail dress. Probably made of a nylon or is some other synthetic lace.
I suppose that the term Majesty itself infers Royalty, of course., and so HRM would be redundant. In my old American brain I was recalling that when I saw clothing or hats made by companies which served the King, it was marked HRM, but I stand fully corrected. I was probably thinking of HRH.
Hello,
While it is difficult to determine what happened , without actually seeing and handling the dress, I can make a good guess. From what I can see, the feathers looks to be marabou. Actually they are faux marabou which are turkey down or some other domestic feathers used to imitate...
How cool to see one of The Queen's hat blocks!
Editing this to ask...is this indeed a photo of one of the blocks used to make one of the Queen's hats? It usually would say HRM The Queen, and this one is missing the "Royal" part. But that writing is an in-house thing, not meant to be seen...
Cute hat. I cannot recall ever seeing a hat with this label. sorry. The hat looks to be a 1950s style. The interior shows 4 short pieces of ribbon. These were probably there to give the hat some special shaping, and should somehow be sewn (or sometimes glued) to the hat. If you can sewn...
Seeing that the initials are actually custom woven (or a sewn in applique) into the lining before it is inserted in the hat, is a nice touch and more expected of a firm such as Lock. I originally thought it was some sort of ink stamp which seemed so odd to me.
Thanks for the added photos. You are correct in that it is not from the 1940s. If you can show the label that would be helpful. It almost looks like a home made hat, making it harder to date, but it looks 1960s era in general style and colors. The lining looks like some sort of knit and I...
While I am not well versed in comparing Lock hats made over the past century, I get a general sense that this handsome Homberg hat of yours dates to post 1950s. Possibly the 1960s era. Just the general construction and look of the interior parts.
Usually the owner's initial are either...
Hmmmm. This one is a little tricky. It has elements of both the 1940s and the 1950s. Is this a wool felt, or is a it a woven wool fabric? I think it is early 1950s. Very cute!
My reply is just in reference to the hats. I find the white feather wig to be very nteresting. Does it have a label? And the black jockey style hat with the chin strap, does that have a label? That is an iconic 1960s style hat so I would like to know the designer on that one.
As both a...
While I am not familiar with the label, I have seen hats with it over the years. Your hat is darling, and I love the pearl appliques. The style dates it somewhere between very late 1940s (perhaps Spring, 1949) to early 1950s. The straw is probably a Swiss novelty straw, and could be a...
