    Small Green Vintage Felt Hat

That is a very cute hat. The markings inside are the worn stampings of the maker (or importer) of the green felt itself, not the hat maker or millinery company so that really won't give us too much in the way of a clue. While I cannot tell if this was made to go with a uniform or garment, I...

    Dating Nightgown/Robe

What a lovely color for a vintage nightgown. I agree with 1950s. Aside from the early 1950s styling, another clue that it is 1950s is that it is made of nylon. While it may not be 100% impossible for a 1940s nightgown to be made of nylon, I have never seen one. Possible it is very late...

    Bardot neckline

Claire, I am not familiar with that as a known fashion term. Kate looks stunning and sweet. Prince must enjoy married life as he has put on a few pounds! Speaking of necklines, Emma Stone's dress looks as if she put it on backwards. I am not a fan of that look unless you have the correct...

Questions about a flapper dress ...

As for suggestions, you can always sell it to me! It is Devore' velvet. The back drape panel could be referred to as a Watteau back, although it is shorter than a true Watteau panel. I do see an Egyptian influence.

Help dating gifted evening bag please

Robin, That is one of the loveliest little purses I have seen in a long time. I imagine it must be dazzling under the lights. It looks more like jewelry than an evening bag! I also wonder if it is French. The way the rhinestones are set on the top piece, as well as the general...

    WHAT IS IT??

Hi, The black fabric you show was used mainly as a lining or foundation material, so I suspect this was some under-skirt, undergarment or lining from another garment. The way it is pleated it probably was intended to add fullness to an overskirt. But really I have no good idea what it is!

    Help dating Victorian photo, please

That certainly is a great antique photograph, and her smile is wonderful. This may be difficult to date through her costume alone, as she is an older or elderly woman. As you may know, in Victorian times older women would often dress in clothing that was not current to the modes of the times...

    Thanks for the help!

I like the pink celluloid also, a good size and they tie in (pun?) with the lasso ropes. Great sweater!

    Dating Fascinators

I agree with Bonnie, I call them Whimsies also. Also agree with an early 1960s date, although the first one might be very late 1950s. I know the term "Fascinator" is popular now and many new hat collectors and new hat wearers call them that now also. But back in the 1960s (and for decades...

    Kirsop top hat dating

That is a fine looking hat indeed. The gray ones do not come up as often, making them more scarce than the standard black, and it looks to be in very good condition also. This would have usually been worn with a morning suit. As you have guessed, top hats can be difficult to date to an exact...

    Is This Pre-1920s??

I just think that this one is not easy for any of us to be 100% sure about unless we have it to handle and examine close up. The lining looks to be genuine antique silk and has begun to shatter. This is a good clue it is an antique garment, unless someone sewed an antique lining to a new...

    Vintage Purse? Yes? No?

Nice purse! It looks vintage to me, perhaps mid to late 1950s to early 1960s, not exactly sure. The frame and lining look to be from that time period, although the tapestry is a bit splashier than others I have seen from that same time. So maybe more into the 1960s. We have some purse...

Trying to find who made this in 1970's London

I thought of Zandra right away also, Claire. But the chicken feathers looks rather "cheesy" for anything not a costume. It is an interesting garment.

    Is This Pre-1920s??

This one may be difficult to determine from just the photos. It has a very basic shape, and possibly has been altered and/or added to in some way. I doubt it is from the 1920s or the 1930s. The lining (?) looks like silk, and so may I ask is the dress silk also? The large lace collar is...

    Jacques Heim coat

Lorena, That is a fabulous dress, and I love the print and the buttons. We cannot give $$ values here on the VFG Forums, but what I can say it is of course of value to those who collect French Haute Couture, as Heim was one of the great ones. A very nice find from your grandmother indeed!

70s style icon Mary Tyler Moore has passed

Probably she is remembered for wearing them indeed, and looking the best in them too. But lets not forget Lucille Ball who wore them on her TV show regularly. My boyfriend always comments on her looking so great in pants when we watch those old TV shows. I say "yes, I KNOW". Tee hee...
