Brilliant photo! It takes me back- I worked as a Junior machinist at a bridal Company in the 70's- they did very similar styles to House of Merivale, but the didn't have the cool factor like this gown.
The Ribbon band looks perfect! Yeah! Now yes its just the sewing it on and painting bit to sort out ;)

I would go with Barbara's suggestion and try acrylic paints- I have used that on all sorts of costumes. The Jo Sonja Paints are especially good and in Australia are readily...

As they appear to be all nylon including the lace trim, I would be going mid to late 1950s.

I would love to have seen what condition all that glamorous nylon was in at the end of the original film shoot- all that smoking- there must have been holes in many of those items.

I would estimate late 1940's into 1950's for this foundation garment judging by the hardware ,elastic insets and fabric.
It would have been for a stout woman- the OS stamped at the hem likely means Oversized.

Hi Donna, these are so cool. They could be for either sex, but I am thinking men's, as I am sure I have seen vintage men's all in ones in red before, that were 40's- 50's.

Just buy a corset, its not worth trying t0 get anything made, just buy outright from James Townsend and Son and $120 is great for a corset, even a simple one , or etsy is full of these as well hello kitty emoti sewingmachineemoti
