Hi Jenny,
That mothball smell is mighty hard to remove. The only way I have ever managed it, is weeks of line drying outside in the fresh air, and even then traces may remain.
I hope someone else will have a miracle solution for you :)
Hi Kevin,
You could also look at buying true vintage frames rather than retro ones, and getting an optician to just fit clear lenses into them. I have often had this done for theatre shows. Just make sure the frame is in great condition and strong.
Hi Melanie, I agree with Hollis and Nicole-it really must have been a costume at some stage. Can you remove the Velcro and restore it back to how it would have been?

They look late 30's-40's to me, but as always, lets wait to hear from the rest of the team for more validation.
Beautiful dress, and those serged seams look original to me.
I have often used a fine serged edge on delicate fashion garments I have made and also theatre costumes- if you have the right machine you can get a very nice finish. My union special overlocker is very old, and a version of the same...
ha ha Melanie- I thought you would also like it!
I shouldn't have splurged, I have SO many bags already, but sometimes you see something so beautiful you just have to go for it!
Golly- Thank you so much everyone for such kind words- truly.
This is a great little morale pick me up right now- as I still don't have any work right now- although there is some on the horizon in February.
