    Is this crazy hat 1940s?

I'm not a hat expert but if you could show the inside that will help a little. It's a great hat. BTW - welcome to the Forums. Have you checked the Quick Tips on Dating Vintage on the home page which gives some helpful tips on hats...

How do you store/display your vintage purses?

I live in a humid climate and cannot diplay my handbags in the open - or much else that won't rust. Even "good" bags have problems with smelling moldy and the metal hardware pitting. I store my bags in my closet in flannel or cloth bags or covered. I agree about not hanging them. Linn

Lady Carol of New York dress, 70's or 80's?

Hi - I think your dress is '80's. That Union label was used from 1974-1995. I believe I see some care instructions which will give you an idea of the fiber content. It looks like a cotton blend from your photo. Linn

Trying to find date of Lord and Taylor by Brynmoor Coat with fur colar.

Hi Lisa - The collar looks like mink. You're calling it a jacket but it looks like a coat to me - either full length or 3/4. Lovely find! We have a wonderful resource for fur on our site - you can access it from our home pages. http://vintagefashionguild.org/fur-resource Linn

Trying to find date of Lord and Taylor by Brynmoor Coat with fur colar.

Lovely coat. You are correct that it's '60's. I think it's right around 1963. The Union Label in the coat was used from 1963 - 1974. It looks like it's wool but I can't tell from the photo what type of fur the collar is. The best way to determine value is to look for similar items for...

Julie Miller California dress - advice about holes?

When I wear vintage I try to wear jewelry from the same period or earlier - but I do wear modern shoes. That usually doesn't include my watch. Sometimes I have a vintage handbag that works or one that is the correct size and scale and/or looks vintage and sometimes I use my regular everyday...

Julie Miller California dress - advice about holes?

Karin - I can definitely see the AB finish on the stones in this photo. I love shirtwaist dresses and have several from this period and I love to wear them! Linn

stumped by A Norman Original dress ??

It's definitely '50's. I found some ads in the Newspaper Archives but didn't find this dress - or any information on the label. As Ruth mentioned there are lots of them listed - the one on RL looks a lot like your dress in a different lace. . Linn

Need help dating this pretty green suit, please

Definitely '60's. That Union label was used from 1963 - 1974. I think it's from around 1967 or so. Linn

Julie Miller California dress - advice about holes?

I agree with Mary Jane - the holes are cigarette burns not piercing. I think Mary Jane's method will work well but if there isn't enough material in a seam you can use the iron on fabric which I suggested. One side of it is smooth and the other is coated and it adheres with heat. I'm not...

Julie Miller California dress - advice about holes?

Midge, Cute dress! You look great in it. I am not seeing the aurora borealis on the stones - they look like rhinestones in the photo. I think the dress is '50's or early '60's. I did a search for Julie Miller California and found a couple of ads from the '60's and '70's but then I did a...

    Brooch Question - Repro?

I agree with Nicolle that the portrait is of a child. I didn't find anything similar on a quick scan through both of the sites I suggested but will look in Warman's today and let you know if I find something. Linn

    Brooch Question - Repro?

I see the glue now but think someone was trying to tighten the portrait in the frame. It really looks "pretty darn old" to me, too. Linn

    Brooch Question - Repro?

I don't think it's "new." The tube hinge and the safety catch don't "match" but the catch could have been broken and a new one added. What is the portrait made of? Is the material it's on stone? It reads like paint in your photo - and the back looks like marble. Carrie mentioned transfers...

Tailor made wool woman's suit, is this 40s?

I can see why Jonathan thinks it's mid-'30's and I can see why others think it's '40's. I can see late '40's in the shoulders and nipped waist. The construction with the snaps and hooks and eyes and lack of a zipper certainly point to the mid-late '30's - or wartime restrictions. But, since...
