I sold the same earrings in light sapphire a few years ago. My scan isn't too great!:
I think the reason there is no crown above the "T" on the brooch is that there wasn't encough room on the applied placque. I did a little search and the patent for the brooch is D168590...

Probably the patent for the brooch was applied for at a different time than the patent for the earrings. Many times pieces were released into the line before the patent was granted. Not every design that was made was even submitted for a patent. There was a lot of "copying"...
Thank you all so much!
Jane Clarke has a large collection of Jonne - which is very Haskell-like. According to Jane, Jonne was a division of Schrager. Here's a link to some incredible pieces:

There is some controversy about Eugene...

Thank you so much! I loved putting the workshop together and I'm glad you are enjoying it. It's pretty long - and there's a lot here - and so much that I couldn't cover. I hope people will go back and read through the varous sections at their leisure.

Modern care labels started in 1983 but care labels were mandated in the US in 1971. I googled "Malco Mode Shorts" and found they are called rhumba panties/bloomers, too. Malco Modes is still in business. If you show the tag and the inside constuction we can probably narrow it down for you...
Thanks, Maggie -
Yes - Your pin is '40's. It's wonderful!!! I don't have any of these whimsical pieces but a number of them have been shared and shown on the Jewelcollect list.

I do not think you should wash it. I don't have as much direct experience as Anne and Linda with trying to wash rayon, but that orange thread says "Dry Clean Only" to me. It looks like it might be a blend - rayon/acetate and might even have some cotton in it - like the orange thread. You...
My first reaction is - I don't know. I did not know the connection between Raymond Yard and Robert Gibson:

I think of Raymond Yard as "fine" jewelry and I have no idea if they ever worked in Sterling and quartz. I have a Raymond Yard book...

The Aywon suit ad in the Jewelry Workshop is from 1951. Your suit is probably from then as well. Your suit and the Aywon suits were influenced by Dior's Autumn 1950 Oblique which featured an assymetirical cut. (I am reading a book about 100 years of fashion advertising in Vogue...
Thank you, Brenda -
I really enjoyed putting this together. It's a huge topic. I know my presentation is pretty long and there is so much that I just touched on. I hope people will return to the Workshop and use it as a reference - and ask questions if they have any.

The end of WWII brought the end of restrictions to the US but it was several years before European countries recovered from the War. In the mid-‘40’s the Paris couturiers gave their first post-War fashion show using wire dolls. The show was called Théâtre de la Mode and everything including...
The only piece I have on RL by a "designing woman" is this pair of earrings by Alice Caviness:

I have this unsigned Miriam Haskell brooch that I plan to list shortly.

Marcasites - the real ones are iron pyrate but most newer ones are imitation - made of glass. There is no way to tell if something is plated or "real" gold unless the plating is coming off and you can see the base metal under it.
You can either "test" it - with a test kit or take...
Just wanted to show a couple of non-vintage handbags with vintage pieces "pinned" on. The first is a Coro fur clip and the second is a Fischel-Nessler pin I showed earlier:
(This is an old scan so the quality is terrible!)
Here's another shot of the brooch:
The pieces do...

You are correct that the dress clip you showed is Retro.
Great earrings. I "think" they are '50's- from the design and the colors. The Pat. Pend. is for the clips. I just did a quick look and there was a patent in 1954 for an adjustable spring clip that was put on this finding...
Lovely, Karin -
The larger one with the red stones is late '30's - very early '40's - Pre-WWII. It's Retro style rather than "Deco." (See Part IV.) The other two are earlier - probably early '30's - could be late '20's. Some of the fancy cuts like the triangular shape of the center...

Please share photos from your "bag of tricks!"
I'm off to an appointment but will post a bag or two with pins and fur clips attached when I return!

Sorry not to comment on this piece, earlier, but I don't know much about this type of jewelry. I think 1960 is correct in terms of dating it but it could be
