I think it's a portion of belt - one end is unfinished suggesting there was more. I would expect another "tassle" so both sides match. Agree it's lovely.
Hi Jenny,
Have you had a look at the fur resource? It looks like one of the sheepskins, broadtail I think but if you compare your skin to the photos you should be able to identify the right one.
I agree with Mary Jane on all counts and would also try soaking in an oxygen bleach if the hand washing doesn't remove the stains. You don't have anything to lose as this dress isn't good with those stains.
If it is silk, the stains probably won't budge and the oxygen bleach might damage it so...
Lovely winter wedding gown - the "fibre tags" in the underarms are probably sweat protectors and independent of the dress. Ladies wore them to protect the dress, as they could be easily removed for washing. If they have been used, I always throw them away, as they're not very nice.
Are the...
Thanks for the extra pics Birdie, your top is an interesting one.
The photos indicate a home sewn garment, with hand stitched button holes which suggests an earlier date. The hem also looks earlier, but as mentioned, it could just mean an older seamstress who is using techniques she honed in...
Yes, if you can include some close ups of the fabric, bias binding and seams/hem it will help us see construction techniques.
My feeling on the available information (which conflicts somewhat with your words) is that it is a cotton seersucker top home made in the '60s using an older zipper...
To see the silhouette you really need to put them on a body of the right size: they're hanging loosely on your form, so that's distorting the shape a little. I tend to agree with a '60s date but sometimes these are earlier or later.
So much yarn has been used in each one so I think they're most...
Laurenm, how you clean crochet is like any other garment: it depends on the fabric. Can you tell if it's silk, cotton, rayon perhaps? The latter two can be soaked in an oxygen bleach but the first probably won't relinquish the stains.
I agree with '70s for this one - those big collars that didn't meet were popular in the mid to late '70s, and I'm sure I don't need to mention how in love they were with chocolate brown.
In '77 my mum went and bought me a chocolate brown skivvy but when she got it home we realised it was black...
I agree with Melanie for '80s on the sequinned top but suspect the dress might be more recent - this is not a fashion item and I don't think it looks old enough to be '60s so I'll go '70s based on the embroidery.
Good point Melanie: also the patchwork style of the print is also a '70s thing, about mid '70s. The buttons are '40s style which threw me off but they came back with revivals in the early '70s too. I did a google for the label and found lots of '70s and '80s fashions so I think you could be on...
Good work Lynne - I looked for him too, as I also thought it might be Stokes but the address I found was different so I wasn't sure if it was the same tailor.
I'll play!
Late '60s for the first one, second one is either early '60s or '50s if the hem has been taken up - or perhaps it's longer than it looks in the photo? Can you supply a measurement. '50s for the last one, probably late '50s. It's very shapeless so depending on the measurements it...
Hi Mochadust - as Mary Jane mentioned in response to the other thread - see here - we're unable to authenticate items here. It needs to be handled by someone in person, as photos do not tell the whole story.
Like many home made garments, this is a tricky one to date but I'm getting a '60s feel and here's why:
1950s metal zipper
cotton bias binding trim on ruffles and sleeves has been top stitched (an earlier dress would have been sewn differently)
the bright print and the light cotton - could be...
Like Melanie, I see an '80s dress but it will help if you can identify the fabric. I expect it will have a synthetic component. The embroidered/cut out parts also suggest a modernish fabric.
The petticoat looks to be '30s. The large buttons are unusual for lingerie as they would show through a...
I'd expect so but I'm still thrown by the condition of the fabric - perhaps it was an older fabric? It looks quite wide in the skirt panels though, so that suggests more recent. I think it might have been washed in the machine a few too many times rather than hand washing in cold water.
The...
You can also read the VFG Label Resource entry for Jean Varon.
We don't have your label, once it's been dated perhaps it could be added?
Whilst we can't authenticate designs here, I see no reason to think it wouldn't be authenticate. I would date to mid to late '70s, about '78.
It reminds me of Indian dresses I wore in the '70s - the fabric, print and style. Yours looks hand made.
Cotton is generally a robust material although it sounds like yours might have had some rough treatment, to be so fragile. I would search for some spare fabric in a seam or perhaps...
The width suggests a more modern dating: probably '70s or '80s but going on the floral print and colours I'll pick mid to late '70s. It looks like a polished cotton. One of my favourite materials.
Widths vary a lot as technology is developed, which is really handy because textile prints are...
Welcome to the forums bahar - according to the forum rules, we're unable to authenticate this item for you. I recommend that you contact a Chanel appraiser, they will need to see the scarf in person as photos don't tell the full story.
I'm not an expert on this label and it's not represented in the Label Resource either, but based on the labels and the lining, I would expect this garment to be probably from the '80s or early '90s.
The AFL CIO CLC label might help if you can research that one.
