Vintage Afghan Coat - Unusual Monochrome Design

I also wondered about goat, and agree yak is unlikely. However there’s various types of sheepskin, different breeds do feel different. Yes these are routinely referred to as Penny Lane coats.

Vintage Burberry Coat in dark brown - real or fake?

It’s pre-2000 because of the S on Burberry

    Mystery coat

I never say plaid. It is probably in use here, perhaps especially in the fashion world, but in my experience it’s not common. The first time I saw it was the film Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid (Steve Martin) and I had no idea what it meant! I also assumed it was pronounced like played. Of...

That’s odd. Have you checked the pockets for labels?

    Mystery coat

By the way ‘plaid’ is not much used in British English. We tend to say check over here.

    Mystery coat

Your coat is post 2000 because it lacks the s on Burberry. In the 2000s/2010s Burberry went through a significant rebranding in order to distance themselves from the negative ‘chav’ association that the brand, and especially the signature check pattern, then had. So I suspect your coat comes...

    Possible Vintage Burberrys Sheepskin Skirt

Nice skirt. It’s giving me a 1980s vibe. Because there’s an S on Burberrys, it must be older than 2000. Is there a reason you think it’s sheep, rather than cow leather?

Help with type of material used for this Art Deco hair comb

I was also thinking temperature might be a clue to whether they are glass or not

What is a sample? Does it have value?

yes this. As far as I know a sample is no different in ‘value’ than the same garment when mass produced. So I wouldn’t price it differently because it’s a sample.

We have two or three TINY and stacked high independent fabric stores in my town. I’m so glad they are still there.

    Is this real leopard ?

FYI It is illegal to buy or sell genuine leopard, and other big cats, with very few exceptions. We have a fur resource. https://vintagefashionguild.org/resources/fur-exotic-skin/

    Is this real leopard ?

The back of real fur usually looks like real suede.

Help with dating and any information about Jonell label

I immediately thought of John Lewis when I saw the title! I remember Jonelle but I didn’t know it used to be spelt differently. I think your dress might be earlier than late 50s. Early 50s maybe?

    Darnell of London Gown Questions

We already have an entry, but I’m sure it could be fleshed out! And the OPs label could be added as thats one we don’t have. It really is a great thread! And the dresses are all amazing

    Darnell of London Gown Questions

your dress looks 1960s to me. We had an ongoing discussion here about this fashion house, in this thread: https://forums.vintagefashionguild.org/threads/darnell-of-london.36515/ I had a Darnell dress once and it was fabulous work. I don’t think you will find out who owned it unless you...

    Mystery 70s Laura Ashley dress..

Thats a wonderful Laura Ashley dress! It looks like there is another label underneath, can you show that and any other labels (both sides if relevant) - care labels will help date it. The main label is similar to the 70s ones in the VFG label resource, but we don’t have this exact one: size...

Vintage wool vest by John Partridge. Any info please...

The pattern is called Argyle, if you didn’t know. It’s very classic, going to be hard to date. Info from any other labels would help.

Help to date this knit cardigan

it’s a hard call, but I’m thinking modern. I see a lot of Lurex knitwear from the 70s, less so in the 80s. But it isn’t really saying 70s to me. the buttons and the mix of colours are saying modern to me. It’s fab, I like it.

I have never seen this! Aquascutum and Burberrys' trench coat collaboration? (Date help)

it’s possible this is Burberry coat, that perhaps lost its main Burberry label. Then someone, who may not have noticed the Burberry label in the pocket, added Aquascutum labels in an attempt to make it more sellable than an unlabelled coat.

    Quorum

Skipton and Shipley are both towns in Yorkshire. That’s a long way from London and not somewhere I’d particularly associate with the British swinging sixties scene. If Quorum ever opened another branch, I’m not sure why they’d choose Yorkshire. My hunch is there’s no connection.

    Aquascutum Wool Coat date help!

Beautiful coat. I think it’s probably circa 1980s but not sure. Because of the wool mark, the earliest it could be is 1964, but I don’t think it’s that old. That Scottish wool label, with the thistle, next to the wool mark, is interesting, I have seen it before but not often. I wonder how...

Old St Michaels Cap - information request

Thanks for that - I was trying to remember that information! Can you remind me how to interpret those numbers? I seem to remember the 5 at the end indicates 1985, but where are you getting October from? I think I have some notes on this on my home computer, but I’m not at home :)

Old St Michaels Cap - information request

Yes it’s from the 80s with that label. That is when the lettering became horizontal, rather than sloping upwards within the box. Clothing from St Michael in the 80s was excellent quality.
