Linn you look beautiful!
I am going to put this dress on ME and send a photo. I'm not as skinny as Lola, and definitely shorter. Maybe it will help. I suspect that the actual waist is slightly dropped. I'm average height (5'5-1/2"). In fact... here's a photo my 4-year-old took yesterday of Lola...
Update. Just did a burn test (which I avoid as it never fails to nauseate me) and if the charts are correct, and silk is self-extinguishing but rayon is not, then this is silk. Stinks like burning hair. Sends up a grayish white smoke. Extinguishes itself when you remove the flame. What's at the...
Oh my. Very interesting, but can't say I'm any closer to knowing how to list it! ; ) Those ads are really nice, thanks Linn. Can we see your wedding dress!?
As for this one (which is oddly depressing to me, don't know why), the seams are not pinked or finished (the collar and hem ARE nicely...
Hi. Just the usual pangs of dating self-doubt. This comes from the same theater as the 1916 black silk and the lounge outfit named after a shipwreck ; ).
Appears to be rayon. Has a very long nylon CC back zip that may or may not be original. I can't find evidence of shoulder pads, but it looks...
I loved that giraffe skirt so much, I nearly cried when I packed and shipped it off to its new owner. Every knob (the little horns) and eye had a prong-set rhinestone, and the background was sprinkled with sequins. If it didn't have a 24" waist, it would not have been for sale at all! : )
Hello VFG members -- Not sure how else to do this. Please excuse me if this is "not allowed."
I am seeking a U.K.-based (or close by) VFG member who has available a whimsical, 50s full-circle skirt.
A customer just emailed to say he'd wanted to buy one of mine for his girlfriend, but the one...
Thanks, everyone! I have to admit a weakness for Miss Elliette stuff. I'm a complete sucker for "pretty frocks." For me, it's much more about the look and feel of the dress than any particular label or how "hip" it is.
Thanks, Pinkcoke! That's all good information. I'm one of those unusual girls who isn't entirely obsessed with shoes (I have shoe-unfriendly feet!), so it's probably my weakest vintage-dating area. This is helpful. - Liza
I think Miss Elliette tends to be ultra-feminine (love their chiffon, for sure), and not necessarily focused on being as "hip and current" as some other labels. Thus, I was wondering if perhaps it wasn't more recent (i.e. super pretty, but a touch out of fashion). But if you say it's 70s, that's...
Hi and Happy Thanksgiving -- I'd thought this Miss Elliette was (late-ish) 70s. Then I looked at the paper tag that has the style, size, etc., and saw the "8 9 83" mark. I wonder if that might mean 8/9/83, or if it's unrelated to date.
Anyone happen to have a Miss Elliette with the size/style...
I know the feeling! Sometimes you've gotta say, "Hey, they're shoes. Like 'em or don't. The year isn't THAT important." ; ) But I have a hard time "letting go" before I know all the answers!!
I see on your site that it's stamped on the inner strap, but it's hard to see. It looks like it says "M" for medium. What's written on the other sole? What store are they from?
Hi again. My guess is 50s, based on where I found them, the font of the shop name (which, of course, could've remained unchanged for decades), the handwritten/letter style + size info, and the tiny size.
BUT... were plastics used in shoes back then? The sequins are stitched to a clear plastic...
I felt exactly the same way, Nicole. I mean, it practically "screams' 80s, which is why I emailed that GINETEX folks yet again. I'm thinking if I keep on them, they'll respond. There HAD to be a starting point for the symbols, for the U.S. and abroad, even if it wasn't a law yet. I will...
I've done about all the searching I can stand ; ). Very tough, as the engines always want to change it to "Regal." Comps abound, but none with definitive info on dates. The marks sites (where they have all the marks, the way VFG has labels), only show the identical mark, but give no info about...
You could try contacting these folks -- they are likely to know more about Mila Schon than anyone, as they produced (in 2010, I think) an exhibit of her work:

Hi -- Dress looks very 80s to me, but I'd thought ASTM cleaning symbols were instituted (for domestic and imported clothing) in 1997, at which time manufacturers could use both words and pictograms, and only in 1998 were they able to use one or the other (and this only has symbols). This dress...
Here are the dress (garment) measurements. It's not as tiny as it looks. Small, but not crazy small:
sh: 16" to outer edge of 2" wide straps,
b: 34" + seams,
ribs: 30",
waist: 27.5",
hips: free,
length: 61" sh-to-hem front, 54" center bodice to hem front
Ladies, that is exactly how I felt about it. It's got stains at the bottom (even post-cleaning -- it came from a theater), but it is still a peach of a dress. Fits me perfectly, but maybe a smidge short-waisted (it's a juniors size, being an "11").
How 'bout this gem, ladies? I emailed Tamara as she suggested. My initial guess was 50s (late), based on the princess silhouette, nipped waist, short overlayer, metal back zip, and general feel of the thing. I really love this dress and it fits me. Too bad the wedding's long over ; ).
