Here is information about the article, which I was able to access through Proquest. Libraries usually subscribe to Proquest, so you may be able to find it through your local library. I believe, however, that Proquest has many components and your library would need to be subscribed to the package...
I read the RN number as 16877, but I assume you read it as 16377, as it is not very clear. The 16877 RN number on the OP's label belongs to MKM Knitting Mills Inc of Manchester NY(?), but that seems to be an error, as MKM was in Manchester NH, as was Darlene Knitwear.
If you Google MKM...
Thank you for the kind words, but as I have said many times, I am only as good as are the databases to which I have access. FYI, the absolute best one for this kind of (vintage fashion) research is the Women's Wear Daily archives, which is apparently owned by/accessed through Proquest. I found...
A March 1974 article reported: "New Issues, a sportswear division of Jonathan Logan, Inc., is reportedly being closed and will wind up its affairs shortly. The division was started four years ago by Logan."
A March 1969 article stated: "Jonathan Logan has formed a new misses sportswear division called New Issues" so that will give you a rough start date for that division. I will see if I can find when it ended.
I assume your ascot is not made of the same material as the gloves, but just in case...vintage ads from the same era as your set all note that twoplex suede is washable, although they don't specify exactly how to wash the gloves.
One 1926 article noted: "In the glove department I bought a pair...
It seems the reason I found "tailored by Delson" only up to 1950 is because they stopped producing for around a year, then reappeared as Delson Corp (a rough approximation of that part of their history, I think). Delson was created from Edelson & Sons Inc. and here is a composite image of your...
Thank you. All the "tailored by Delson" references I found were from about 1946 to about 1950 and they were all for women's suits and coats ("perfectly tailored by Delson to a women's proportions")
Aha! I found a 1952 ad for the same set. NOTE: This is posted here for educational purposes only. Because of the copyright, you cannot reprint this publicly anywhere else. Thank you.
Very sweet! There was no image accompanying this 1952 article, but the description sounds like your set: "Perkiest gloves seen in a while are the candy-striped ones designed in Paris by Hermes and manufactured in New York...They're neat classic shorties of a suede-like cotton with hand-finished...
Here is one other May 1975 blurb I found about your inquiry: "Soo Yung Lee, designer, has formed a rtw company under her own name, operating out of her home at 157 East 72nd St. Ms Lee was previously with Baron Peters Co., Inc. At one time she was with Sarmi, which sold her designs under the...
Yunona,
If you would like more people to see your label inquiries, I suggest you start a new thread, with a separate post about each unique label. As you now have three labels about which you are asking in your original Rutta post, readers may not see your later questions about the other...
Kate, I was able to find that reference in a database to which I have access through a library. I posted it here for educational purposes, so please do not post it publicly anywhere else, for copyright protection. As a graduate of a university, you may be able to research similar databases...
Well, it seems your skirt dates to before 1980, because of the information in this Jan. 1980 article: "UMI Collections, Ltd., and designer Soo Yung Lee have severed their business relationship" and "...both the S.Y.L. Corp and UMI Collections will be producing their own fall collections."
The primary thing I found and that you will see here are two photos of similar, but not identical, Rosebird labels from 1920s cloches. It is not at all unusual to have label designs change over the years, so this did not overly concern me. They both have the brand Rosebird surrounded by a...
Yunona, for educational purposes I am posting here the PM replies I gave you...
In all the years I have been researching labels, there have been only two instances when I found absolutely nothing. In one case I discovered the inquirer incorrectly spelled the name from memory (she didn't have a...
Thanks to Karin's note that the name on your label is not Rutta with an umlaut, I found a 2008 obit for Riitta:
"Riitta Immonen, a founder of the Finnish textile and clothing company Marimekko, and a designer of uniforms and ready to wear with a couture touch, died on Aug. 24 in Helsinki...
Note that in this 1966 Lowell MA city directory no Fenway Clothes Shop is listed. I could not find any online Lowell city directory between 1956 and 1966, so we can't pinpoint when exactly the men's store became just (James P.) Curran's.
