I did a quick search for "Emme Boutique" in one newspaper database and found ads for it from 1960-1971. One 1960 article stated:
"Emme's jersey turbans, her lacquered feather collection which look shiny as the cire ribbon which she uses for trimming are as high and exciting as her sparkling...
You aren't kidding...bears and all.
Thank you all for the help with the photos, but "bear" with me, please for a couple more images so I can try to locate these places. Here is one other view of a bit of that station/museum, in which you can see the proximity to the mountains and forest. I will...
Thank you so much for the photos and the links, laughingmagpie! I will read everything later tonight. My husband was in Banff and said it was one of his favorite places of the very many he has visited around the globe. I look forward to seeing more photos of it.
And, Janine, I am afraid that...
I recently bought a ca. 1907 photograph album of a family's vacation to Yellowstone National Park and in it are photos of what I suspect are Canadian cities (so I will probaby ask for additional help later). Does anyone recognize this place in what I assume is Canada? The signs on what seems to...
When we moved to this northern NJ community about 33 years ago we were told by several neighbors that we could not hang laundry outside, as I had been accustomed to doing at our last home--and all my life. I was told that the reason was that it is unslightly and I since learned that there was an...
A 1961 newspaper blurb reported that: "Donald Davies of Dublin, designer of casual clothes, has brewed a new shade of green."
Another 1961 newspaper article noted that: "A ruddy Irishman who lives and works in a drafty Dublin castle is visiting here briefly to declare a fashion pants war on...
If you tried at attach to your post a photo of your dress and used the Attachment feature, your image may be too big to appear here. If this is what happened, try resizing the photo to a smaller size and use "Edit" to try attaching it again.
I am delighted that you all seem to enjoy the braces as much I did. I have attached here an image of the sad part of them, though. A few of them are in very good condition, but most are sloppily repaired as is this pair.
I found a little-tongue-in-cheek but informative article about them with a...
Yes, he certainly must have been! I know he was a lawyer and I think he was a judge. Can you imagine seeing your lawyer wearing Lady Godiva to court? :hysterical:
Here are three more sedate ones from the same suitcase...
Sorry that it took a couple of tries to get the image small enough to post, but it may have obscured some of the details, such as Lady Godiva in the second from the left brace strap.
I never gave a thought to men's suspenders/braces until I was at a recent house sale and near the end of the sale we found a suitcase full of incredible, primarily Calvin Curtis braces. Most are in pretty bad condition, but the designs are wonderful...
In a 1963 Canadian newspaper article about designing children's fashions, we see:
"...Mrs. (Elen) Henderson tries to use only fabrics of pure cotton, silk or wool fibres because she has found synthetic and drip-dry fabrics don't wash and wear as long successfuly...Mrs. Henderson seldom uses...
Sort of OT: Wouldn\'t these be cute in old Vogues?
A friend just sent me a link to these and I contacted the seller to ask if they can do them in custom designs, such as in (copies of) historic newspapers or magazines. Aren't they fun?
Amazing indeed. I just stared at the end of that wonderful video for the longest time and reflected on the warp speed passage of time from the 80s to now.
Thank you for the reminders to enjoy each moment of now.
Thank you very much, Carrie! Thanks to the articles you sent I was able to more effectively search for additional information ("Rooster Inc" rather than "Rooster ties") and found at least six articles, including this helpful one.
I am trying to research Rooster ties for the label resource and I found a reference to an article about them in the October 1990 issue of Gentleman's Quarterly. Does anyone have a suggestion as to how I can find that magazine? I am not turning up any leads.
Thanks!
I have to leave for the museum, so I am sorry that I only had time for a quick search of the newspaper databases. I did not find your cute hat, but I found ads for "Jean Allen of Gage" from 1938-1953 and I thought your hat resembled the early 1950s hats more than the 1940s hats.
Away, thank you...
The other thing I found was this 1953 ad that mentions that the store sells suits by Seymour Fox and while the one pictured in the ad is not a Seymour Fox suit, the features on the suit are very similar to yours: the curved bottom edge of the jacket, the curved detail where the pockets are, the...
Re your three-label suit, a 1954 newspaper article on the textiles of "Jacques Lesur, noted French textile designer," notes that:
"The importance of wool-and-silk in the fabric picture, too, is largely due to Lesur's pioneering. One of the prettiest of the Lesur collection is 'mouny' -- a thin...
