    Translation question - Strichtuch

There is something called nap loden, which is brushed, though I'm not sure if it's fulled or not.

    60s dress, fabric?

I learned something here too. A new one on me. I recognise the type of fabric, but didn't know its name. Thanks MS :)

    Help identify damaged label

I suspect the flower power pattern is what will sell it, rather than the brand. I love these 1960s patterned towelling robes - I bought one recently. They aren't super common, but I don't know how desirable they are (except to me!). Suggest you look for 60s floral terry robes or beach/pool side...

    R.M.H.O. Label

Interesting. I don't think I've seen it. But I will keep my eyes open (I'm in the UK). Do you know what RMHO stands for?

    Textile Identification Help

The scene you've shown in close up looks like The Fox and The Stork from Aesop's fables. Perhaps there are other stories too, or perhaps its all about The Fox and the Stork - we'd need to see more close ups of the individual scenes. http://www.read.gov/aesop/016.html

Please help me date this Andora silk patterned dress

Given the 'coin operated' label info - to me it now seems likely that it's from around 1972 rather than earlier. If others had thought earlier 60s, it would have shown that this particular label wording was already in use, prior to the 1972 guidelines to manufacturers I discovered - see the...

Please help me date this Andora silk patterned dress

I also don't see empire line here, it does look to fall on the waist not above it, but it having originally been longer is a good thought. But I can't figure out a date either. If not for the labels and pinked seams, I'd have thought it quite modern.

It's a lovely dress. I hope someone else weighs on dating.

Dry cleaning label and dating -- coin operated method?

Hmm I'm not sure - let's see what others say on date. Are you that is a metal zip - eg metal teeth? It looks like a nylon zip to me in the pictures.

Dry cleaning label and dating -- coin operated method?

Given what I've discovered above, I'd be very interested to see your garment and have it dated.

Dry cleaning label and dating -- coin operated method?

I did a bit more research. A good tip for researching labels is to google the exact text of the label in quotes. You will then usually find other examples of the label, and possibly sites discussing the label. So by googling: "do not use petroleum solvents or the coin operated method of dry...

Dry cleaning label and dating -- coin operated method?

Here's a thread about people reminiscing about coin-op dry cleaners (there's a forum for everything isn't there :) !) http://www.automaticwasher.org/cgi-bin/TD/TD-VIEWTHREAD.cgi?39953 It doesn't say anything about the labels, but peoples first memories of the machines are in the 60s. I imagine...

Dry cleaning label and dating -- coin operated method?

Here is the thread you recall: http://forums.vintagefashionguild.org/threads/coin-operated-dry-cleaning.39965/ However there's nothing conclusive on the date of that wording. As in that thread, if you show the garment it can be dated by other methods

    Vicuna?

You are quite correct that CITES rules apply only to international trade. However all countries that are signed up to CITES have domestic laws that are at least as strict as CITES regarding sales within the country, and in many cases the country's own laws are stricter than CITES. Therefore if...

    Vicuna?

You may with to see my reply to this other thread regarding Vicuna. http://forums.vintagefashionguild.org/threads/oxxford-clothes-vicuna.58835/#post-587164 I'm not overly familiar with USA endangered species laws. However from what I do know, the likelihood is you can't sell any CITES Appendix...

English Victorian fashion: identifying era from old photo of a fashionable lady

There's a bit of information online about Arthur Vokins of 23 Baker Street. He is placed at that address by reliable sources, in 1887, and, 1894 - 1985. It's not clear whether he was there earlier, but he may have been. See...

    Oxxford Clothes Vicuna

Please be aware that Vicuna is now an endangered species, and so there are legal issues with selling clothing made from Vicuna - even if it was made a long time ago. Most Vicuna is on Appendix I of CITES, the most controlled, and so the controls in place are the same as, for instance, leopard...

    Burberrys coat identification help

I've seen a few burberrys items shown on these forums with that kind of size label with an order number, and we have speculated that it might be a custom order piece from Burberry, where the customer requests certain specifics, eg long rather than standard, and the garment is made for them. So...

    help please

I wondered about Fortnum and Mason too, but decided against. F&M don't actually sell clothes. Apart from food, which is what they are famous for, they only sell accessories, homewares and beauty products, but not dresses. Possibly they used to sell women's clothing, but I couldn't find any...

Hi all found this jacket yesterday!

Hi Danny Nice jacket. I think 70s, not 60s? but others may see differently. We can't offer pricing advice here, because there are so many variables to consider, eg a seller with a track record and an established shop can often get a better price than a new seller, and there are many factors...
