Questions about peasant blouse...vintage or not? What does the tag say? What do I call...

...and it seems that Sarkozi means "from Sarkoz" (a place in Hungary). I gather, then, that the label means the garment is folk art created in the style of Sarkoz.

Questions about peasant blouse...vintage or not? What does the tag say? What do I call...

Well, the label is Hungarian and I <u>think</u> the word nepmuveszeti has something to do with--or means--folk art.

    More fun!

I heard this before and the lyrics are wonderful, but I am afraid Julie Andrews did not sing that. I learned that quite some time ago she had a botched surgery that has prevented her from singing again. Whomever did this, though, is very clever!

Haro? and Harold Levine...nice items with unknown labels

Definitely Harou. Here is another reference to the company, from a 1956 newspaper article on Fashion Week: "Not yet two years in operation, Harou is rapidly becoming an important name. His cocktail and after-five clothes are as romantic as the feminine woman desires. He has used variations of...

Haro? and Harold Levine...nice items with unknown labels

I found ads for similar dresses (still looking) by Harou. One 1966 NY times article on designers noted: "Not yet in his class is William Pearson, also a designer of talent. Mr. Pearson has had his own business for six of his 36 years, before working for Harou, a California concern. His clothes...

Recent Purchase ... What does it say?

Now that I think about the expression, I am inclined to understand it to mean that when one is away from other eyes (as in the more remotely populated Alps), behavior is likely to be more unrestrained.

    Rain Wraps, are they...

Those are terrific! I found ads from 1947 that described the Rain Wraps as new. I only found ads for them through 1951, so I assume you can date them to that narrow range. I also only saw them described as 'rain shoes' (in addition to Rain Wraps, of course). The ads all said they can go over...

    Hats Off...or On?

A very entertaining video, thanks! It had one glaring error, though, and I noticed it because I made the same one. When I had a hat exhibition at our museum, I had some men's hats in it, too, and I lamented that men don't wear hats anymore. One male visitor stared at me in wide-eyed...
