Linn is right in that they could be either German or Czech (I saw Czech also) since there is so much overlap, especially during that time, when Bohemian factories manufactured glass stones for the 'world' (with the exception of Italy and Japan, which lampworked their own).
So when you list...
Very pretty -- the first and last pair often come out of the former West Germany or out of Austria (sometimes they are marked, sometimes not) -- 60's.
Lovely beads on the second pair. The beads themselves are older and also Czech, but these are a marriage -- beads were added to contemporary...
There has been a ton of discussion over this, over many years on the various boards -- with most buyers preferring jewelry shown on inanimate objects. This is very true of rings (unless hand is very young, slender, and blemish/freckle-free) and especially so of "pierced" earrings.
Many folks...
Those are neat earrings Julie, and I really like the look of the ancient Chinese coins.
The center green discs look like bakelite and would check them out to be sure. :)
Louise, when I needed help with a Latvian silver hallmark, I popped right into the Russian Team's main thread on Etsy and asked for help. My few Cyrillic reading skills are long, long gone, and they were very helpful with the translation -- especially the two who sent me private convos with...
Not pretentious at all Paul! I think it's very professional, and lets dealers know that you are a serious buyer/collector (plus, once they know you have bucks to spend, you can bet they're going to roll out the red carpet, lol).
What a lovely lot Louise! :) I think Candy is right, in that the first label looks like Cyrillic. Is there more wording beneath the little animal logo (assuming it's written in same), and can maybe shed more light? Keeping fingers crossed. :)
Here is the swivel Carrie. A well dressed gentleman on one side, and Rebecca at the Well and companion (or sister wife) on the other.
The carving is not of the best quality, but imagine that the nice gent was important to someone once.
OK Carrie -- It wasn't too far in the black hole of my closet and will throw it on the scanner, since there's no light here now.
I'll make a separate post in a few minutes.
How cute are those!!!Little spiral shells with the 'pearls' spilling out! :) What is at the top? Would it be amber? Seaglass?
The style looks mid-late 50's to me.
Nice Sarah! Keep raiding, so that we can see some more! ;)
Yes, defo Etruscan Revival with simulated granulation. I don't see any kind of replacement though -- everything is original, including the safety with chain. Also, am not seeing the green stones -- are they the stones in the...
OK, I'm flipping through this old artifacts book, and found a similar tomb piece, referred to as "spiral jewelry". Somehow, that doesn't sound complete enough, but I'll keep looking.
This is a very old style -- an ancient Egyptian wirework in the form of a collar, and still crafted today. I'm sure it has a name, but nothing comes to me at this moment. Perhaps one of the joolies will know.
The metal looks like German/Nickel Silver (not a true silver as you may know...
Well good heavens -- I had just written out a long winded response, when this computer 'updated' on me and I lost all of it (I dislike these new computers -- they're like living organisms).
Anyway, I'll be brief so that in a nutshell, Karin's original assessment was on the money, as these...
Maggie, I'm studying your pics more carefully now, and from the way they're cast, they appear to be on the contemporary side. If you *do* decide on showing close-ups of the back, I would like to see a better shot of the bail/bale (this is the 'loop' that connects the earpost with the pendant...
Hi Julie!
Any good loupe with a triplet 10x lens is good for casual use. They usually run around $10 or less.
For those who do more than casual buying, I suggest and use myself the Belomo Triplet 10x -- and if one is going to check stones, then best to get a loupe with a black casing...
Are they post backs? I would put them no earlier than 60's.
They're very sweet btw :) , and if the stones are in open back settings and you happen to have a good loupe on hand, you can do a 'quickie' diamond check, by placing newsprint beneath it and then viewing through the loupe.
If...
It looks like you have a Catholic brooch, with a medal of the Blessed Mother (or perhaps another figure - hard to see).
It's fired enamel, and if you give it another quarter turn to the right, maybe we can make out who is in the center.
Wow, that's a beautiful bag!
That handsome dome shaped frame and chain link are celluloid. I'm going to guesstimate 20's for the bag, although I'm sure the bag folks will be around shortly to give you a better date.
What a nice find! :)
