I did see a number of ads in Vogue too when I researched it back then but never found any good info on the designer. Thanks Lynne for uncovering something about her. When is the article from?
She was mainly doing shawls, stoles, capes etc in the early years and seems to have expanded later (as...
I had researched Loomtogs at one point in the past (see this old thread https://forums.vintagefashionguild.org/threads/loomtogs-shorts.69455/)
which has a link to a bunch of info about them. Your label is the same as mine was so they could be from the 40s though I don’t know much about this...
I personally have never owned or worn one. My mother used to wear them back in the day but even she had stopped wearing them at least a decade ago. I suppose it just depends if you wear clothing that needs it.
The RN number estimated issue date doesn’t indicate when a garment is made but simply the earliest it could have been made. RN numbers are used for many years after issuance, sometimes for multiple decades.
As to your robe, I am not an expert in such garments but would have said 80s. Let’s see...
I guess that’s what I am confused about. How would you know if it was made to order? Being that old and handmade and I believe handstitched and the address appearing to be in a high end neighborhood of Paris made me think that this perhaps is bespoke.
Also, I thought manteau is simply the...
So was there no couture before the establishment of this governing body? I ask because I just found a piece which I think is from the late 1800s that I am very excited about. I would have called it French couture but now I am uncertain if that’s true. Is it couture, or would you call it...
Thanks Maggie! I really need to study this a bit further. Sometimes to be honest I am not sure what’s a pattern and what’s the weave.
And since we are talking about check and so many guests to the VFG forums visit us to ask about Burberry, I thought this was an interesting article about the...
Not sure what union label information resource and what label you are looking at that causes the confusion (maybe you can post it here) but the ILGWU remained active up until 1995, when they merged with another union, Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America, to form UNITE. So as Maggie pointed...
It looks like mink to me. Let’s see what others think. What does the label at the neck say? Can you show us a photo of it and any other labels.

I see late 60s/ early 70s due to the colorway but I may be wrong.
It looks like the Aqua 5 water repellent was introduced in 1959 so that narrows the dates a bit from those based on the royal warrant
Wow!!! That’s one of the most fascinating things I have seen in a long time. I had never heard of spider silk before.
It sounds like at least it involves no spiders. They say the main input in this fiber-making process is sugar from plants that are grown, harvested, and replanted. However, it...
