Thank you Mary Jane, Jonathan, and Joules and Alice. Very helpful as always. I will go with alligator vanity/ train case and overnighter. In terms of dating, I thought 40s or 50s as well but the green lining of the bottom compartment is in such good shape that I wasn't sure.
Also, one more...
Hi everyone,
I have a few questions about this item:
Is this called a beauty chest/ case or does it have a different name?
What period would you say it is from?
What type of reptile leather does it imitate?
Should I replace the mirror which has quite a bit of deterioration?
The case has two...
Hi,
I was hoping to get some help with this jacket. I think it is from the 70s but I am not sure. It feels like some sort of velvet like fabric but with a print that resembles feathers. That's probably not the best description but I am not sure how else to describe it. It has a rusty orange...
Hi,
Does this crinkled fabric have a special name? Also the dress has elastic on the bottom which makes it a bit balloon like. Is there a name for such a style? It's made of acetate and has boning Finally, I think it is from the 80s but would love to hear the experts' opinion.
Thank you
Victoria
Thank you all. Very helpful. The union label is in the fourth photo and I believe is the one used from 1974-1995. I found where I read about lot numbers being pre-80s. It's right here http://sammydvintage.com/vintage-style/vintage-clothing-label-tags/#lot
Is that not true?
Thanks Jonathan. Since it had a union label and a lot number, I thought it wouldn't be from, at the latest, the early 90s. I read that lot numbers were used only up until the 80s. Is that not true?
Thanks
Victoria
Hi all,
What is the name of this type of neck/ bust line with all the fabric twisted and sewn onto the bottom fabric? Also would you agree with 80s? I am a bit surprised that it comes with a white sheer crinoline.
Thanks.
Victoria
Hi all,
I am trying to accurately measure what I believe is an 80s dress. The bodice is giving me grief since it is structured (is this the proper term?) both in the back and in the front through the bust area with some sort of plastic strips and it won't lie flat. How to you properly provide...
Claire,
I am pretty sure that it is from a Vogue pattern series called Vogue Paris Original. They had all these famous designer patterns with actual models in simialr style fashion photography rather than the drawn covers of normal patterns

Hi all,
I am looking for help dating this dress as well as some good terms to describe the style. Where would you wear it? There are no labels of any kind. The blue overlay is somewhat sheer but a bit stiff like cotton. It closes with a zipper in the back.
Thanks
Victoria
I would love your opinion if this is an 80s doing 20s dress. Was that a trend at one point in the 80s? Also, is this what they call a flapper dress and is the top part Chantilly or Venise lace? The brand name is Patra. It's made of a nylon, polyester, rayon blend. The lacey part buttons in the...
Yes, she did!:) There is also one in black, one in navy blue, and ten boucle skirts. Adolfo did a lot of copies of Chanel suits and I actually found an example of the 1962 Chanel version of the cream one here. Pretty neat!
Thank you Liza. No other labels unfortunately. I don't believe the company exists anymore. Even though it has s site it only really offers licensing. The label resource says Adolfo retired in 1993 and subsequently there was a license under Adolfo Atelier up until 1996. I have seen some of these...
Thank you for responding. I don't believe that the jacket is from the 90s based on the estate I got it from but I may be wrong.
Nicole, I do think it is a knitted jacket even though it kind of looks like tweed. It's a tough one to describe.
Hi all,
Hoping to get an opinion on when this jacket is from. I think it is 70s but I have a number of other Adolfo suits and jackets from the same estate that are a very different style so this one seems out of place. The lapel is covered in some sort of slick fabric. I think the jacket itself...
Thank you, Carrie. And yes, it is a Tyrolean purse. You are good:) I have been researching it for a while trying to figure out if the scene is part of a known artwork. Also, I have been trying to figure out why these purses typically have a much higher value than other similar tapestry bags. Do...
Thank you, Jody. I hope Claire finds it useful even though I could not pinpoint the source. The woman from the blog may be able to help as well.
Victoria
Claire,
I think I may have found your suit. I don't know who the photographer is but it seems that this may have been from a pattern at least according to this woman's blog http://prairiemary.blogspot.com/2012/10/fine-clothes.html.
Here is the link to the pic...
Thank you Mary Jane. And thank you on behalf of doggie Lily. I was wondering about the fact that it is not only so extremely pointy on the front but also has this kerchief triangular shape in the back.
Hi all and Happy Thanksgiving!
I have a quick question. What is the name of this type of collar? It is on a 70s Geoffrey Beene caftan dress from his Beene Bag line.
Thank you.
