Hello,
I acquired this Harris Tweed jacket and was hoping someone can help with dating. I know the label is from 1975-1985 according to the VFG label resource. There is also a second label which reads Concord Clothing Company which was in existence between 1936-1990 so that doesn't help with...
Thank you so much Pinky-A-GoGo. So is it called a slip/ half-slip? And would you say it's from the 50s?
The avatar is a pic of my chiweenie Lilly:)

Hi all,
I got this item which I thought at first to be a skirt but upon closer inspection realized that the top black part is too transparent and thin and looks more like an undergarment. I think it is a half slip or something like that but how do you wear this? Is it like a crinoline? It seems...
Thank you Melanie. Since both you and Nicole thought the pink dress was also from the 80s and you are the pros, I will go with labeling it that way. Any thoughts on what the fabric is or how to describe it? Is that sateen?
Thank you again.
Victoria
Nicole,
The pink dress is fully lined. It has no zipper. It closes in the back with a number of loops and fabric covered buttons which are metal on the bottom (second photo). I thought these were popular in the 60s since I saw many supposedly 60s dresses with such closure on etsy. There is no...
According to a 1963 edition of Newsweek, Sunnyvale Industries sold their line of Pat Perkins dresses over the telephone.

There are some ads for them as early as 1948 though.

Nicole,
Sorry for posting in one thread. I had inadvertently missed that rule so thank you for pointing it out. I did see a number of other threads with a number of items in the same thread while researching so I actually thought it was more convenient. Now that I know the rule, I will make...
I have a few things I am trying to date as well as a few questions and would truly appreciate your help.
1. Pink dress - fabric has sheen and changes color slightly depending on the angle of the light. Taffeta? Maybe 60s? No label besides an old dry clean tag
2. Green velvet? gown - big bows on...
Not much but I did find out that Toni Imports was mentioned in the 1964-1965 Hong Kong trade directory. Here is the entry
TONI IMPORTS(FAR EAST) LTD, 107, Chatham Road, 13th Floor, Flat A, Kowloon

Thank you Nicole and Joules. It is only ever so slightly clipped in the first photo and is completely free in the second one. I am not sure how to tell if the hem has been altered. It doesn't appear so. I did find that Bentley's of Boston was in existence from 01/25/1952 until 07/07/1980 when it...
Hi all,
I am trying to date this Bentley of Boston suit. I think it's from the 60s but I would love to hear what the experts think. Also, I have never seen another garment on which there are two different tags. On this suit, the Bentley of Boston tag is on the side lining seam and the "Country...
Thank you Joules. I didn't assume that based on the date of introduction of the woolmark but based on the fact that I hadn't found anything later than the early 70s but now I see that they did in fact exist later.
Thank you Pauline, I did think it had a 40s vibe to it, even though now it...
Thank you Kate and Nicole. I did find out that the woolmark was introduced in 1964 so the suit is most likely from that time. I never found a record of the Kirkland Hall company existing after the early 70s.
Victoria
Is anyone familiar with the Kirkland Hall label? I have acquired what I believe is a 40s wool suit with that label but seem to be unable to find anything about the company besides a few ads from the mid 40s.
Thank you,
Victoria
I am by no means an expert but I think that your dress is from the early 50s. There are a number of fashion ads from the early to mid 50s for Chalet of Dallas (like this one http://texashistory.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metapth149983/m1/10/zoom/) but one specifically caught my attention since it refers...
