I wouldn't expect the basted label with the item weight to appear on a garment retailed to the public, so suspect that this is a sample garment and that label was only for company reference. It appears to give the specific colours used. much like a newspaper does down the side edge.
Maxine I think if I'm seeing it right, the 3rd close up photo shows a large hem alteration of some 6" and you can just about make out the edge of this on the skirt in the photo of the back of the dress.
Hi, I am in the UK and have 3 dresses for sale in my etsy shop that may suit:
1950s embellished evening/cocktail dress UK 16 - 18
late 1950s / early 60's satin wiggle dress UK 18 - 20
1960's mod geometric floral print shift dress UK 18 - 20
I also have some other larger garments not yet listed...
I wouldn't say the creases were stubborn - the fabric is too thin for that, but having taken so long to iron both layers, it didn't take long at all for the outer to get lines again.
When listing it I found a wear spot on the skirt that has removed the very fine black fibres similar to the...
Thanks Nicole, it's a great size too - 36" waist. It could probably go a size up from what I set my mannequin to (the bust is hard to determine with the two piece bodice, it came up somewhat loose), but I didn't want to push it knowing I had to get it over the shoulders.
I didn't add an...
It has a linen/thin slub texture but is very fine and silky and has a real sheen. I'm thinking it's silk, but what sort? I haven't handled many of the examples featured in the resource so would appreciate your thoughts.
You can see the weave best in this photo:
the 'linen' texture can be seen...
Hi, If you read our forum rules you will see that we cannot authenticate your garment. It would need to be seen in hand by a professional.
In any case, I would say from the variety of languages the care label is translated into, it was made not long ago. I would suggest going to a modern Dior...
Would it not have been screen printed? as the dotted printed appears superimposed over the block colours.
It does remind me of potato printing though :)
It looks like a costume piece to me, made from some older jewellery, possibly an antique base, backed onto that mesh. The addition of the ovoid cabouchons makes me think 50s or 60s.
Gorgeous, I have a 50s/60s candyfloss pink wiggle dress in the same ruched chiffon technique I've yet to list. It also comes under the 'frou frou' category!
I was tempted to call those armlets, but a quick search tells me that's the arm equivalent of an anklet, so maybe not. It seems to just go...
I kinda like it too! especially the way the intarsia technique makes the cats raised. I think the colour way is very 70's, but yes it's very difficult to identify age with a handknit.
I find garments with Orlon marked on them tend to be from the 60's when it was a new brand. I'm not sure all the pieces on yours are original to the cardigan though.
I was in discussion the other day about how the hairy jumper (or sweater for those outside of the UK) appears to be making a come back here. Topshop and most of the major women's chainstores are selling the 80's style 'eyelash' yarn tops in any colour you can imagine. I can't imagine ever...
While I can see why you would place it as 60's my gut reaction is that this was made up in the 1980s, due to the combined choices of polkadot fabric and pearl buttons. Both decades featured the drop waist but I think this might be too long for the 60's. The pockets are making me unsure though! I...
