The sweater itself is angora.

I've had a Mexican pintuck button front beach coverup with poly net lace, Jonathan. It was a cotton/poly blend with the poly lace and thinner than the older Mexican cottons. Pretty, but not the same quality as the older cottons with cotton lace.

I'm not sure about the dating as different areas of Mexico make different types of souvenir clothing. Probably 70s or early 80s.

I agree with Cin - Mexican souvenir pintucked blouse. I've had several Mexican pintucked dresses and beach coverups in white cotton or cotton blend with inset lace.

Due to the bottom button being right at the hemline, the dress looks like it may have been shortened from it's original length. Normally a bottom button is at least an inch or two (or more) above the hem.

A beautiful dress and wonderful restoration.

Using a dye catcher sheet in the wash and rinse water might help prevent any dye run.

I would lean towards leaving the shirt as it is now - for the reasons you state, and also there may be some type of damage underneath the fold.

Great dress! The Paganne label probably came loose and fell off at some point in time. The sloppy construction could be home done alterations. Many people used to do their own alterations at home with varying levels of skill back then.

Beautiful dress. I had the same Barbie dress - came with long black gloves I believe and little black springolator type shoes.
