Great coat! The label is in your coat is shown in the VFG Label Resource as an early '60s label. That fits with the style of the coat in your photo.

I think the pin stems, hinges and clasps are later additions to what was a belt buckle, so it could be worn as a brooch. The modern "safety catch" was developed in the 1920s.
Welcome to the VFG, Linda. We are thrilled that you discovered the old thread about your "Lonia" label and found us. We look forward to learning and hearing about your exciting incredible journey - and seeing your visual art.

It looks like molded plastic to me. Plastic is lighter and warmer than metal. When you tap metal with your teeth it will make a higher pitched sound and will feel cold to the touch. Plastic will make a dull or a "clunking" sound if you tap it with you teeth - and will feel warmer to the...
It looks good to me, too. It is not in any of my books, but it looks just like other photos of the "Bambi" Martha Sleeper brooches that are online, except for the extra dot. Looks like it's in wonderful condition!

That is my understanding of Jelly Belly, too. The stone could be glass or it could be plastic. Glass stones are heavier, and cooler to the touch and make a different sound when you click them with your teeth.
I agree with Regina (Vintorious) that the earrings are '50s - they might be late '50s. The prong set stones surrounding the yellow stone are aurora borealis coated rhinestones. That process was introduced in the mid-50s. The design and the type of clip back are '50s not '40s. Do you...

The comb definitely looks like celluloid. The pearl looking spheres look like faux pearls. If they are - you don't want to get them wet to test them, so doing a hot water test isn't a great plan. Are the spheres cooler to the touch that the comb part? The "spheres" and the comb might...
The colors are more '60s than earlier.
I have a wonderful '40s rayon (print) Holomu`u that is very crisp on both sides. I don't have any other examples of Aloha attire or fabric here but I don't think it's unusual for a cotton print to be crisp on both sides.
There are a few different flowers in the print - the leaves that are depicted are not plumeria leaves. Some of the flowers are plumeria but not all of them.
If you do a search for Plumeria you will see the difference - or come look in my yard!
I agree it's a Hawaiian Print. What is the...
I see very late '30s to early '40s, too. Back zippers were used in the late '30s. Some years ago Jonathan posted that there's a very prominent center back zipper in the 1939 film "The Women."
I did some volunteer work at the UH Costume Collection and questioned a gown with a back zipper...
