I just found a 1920s Burberrys London trench coat in a garment bag that my grandmother brought from England when she moved to the USA. The neck tag isn't there and it doesn't have the standard check pattern inset. It does have this tag on the inside of the left breast pocket. I am having trouble finding anyone that can verify the authenticity of this coat as Burberry. The only person to verify that it is Burberry is my mom who said she remembers my Grandmother wearing this coat, but she is sure its a mans trench. Any help would be great. Thank you

Hi Charles,

Welcome to the VFG forums - as per the terms and conditions, we're unable to authenticate it for you, as you need to take it to an expert for them to inspect and touch it in person, but if you post pics of your coat plus tell us more about the fabric, fasteners and include pics of any other labels (if there are any) we can help you date it, which will help determine if it's likely to be '20s.

It's odd that the date is written 07/29/20 though. In the UK, July 29th 1920 would be written 29/7/20 - we always put the day first.

I wonder if it's the line above that's referring to the date - 14.8.40 - though there is a random 7 or squiggle in front of that.
