1930s/1940s day dress???? what do you think...

Hi Everyone,

I have this sweet red cotton print dress by Lee Wentley. With the little, button cap sleeves, I guessing 30's or 40's. There is a little string bow tie at the neck line and a cord lace trim around front of neckline. Button up the front with a little snap at waist. It has only one pocket which is in seam and only one belt loop. I don't have the belt. Front also has a "pleated bib???"

Thanks for your help in narrowing down the dates.

Is this the original length? If so, I'd go with the 50's date, but I certainly think this could be 40s if it's been shortened. I have 2 paisley dresses from the late 40s, and one is in very similar colors and with similar styling.

Thanks everyone for your comments - very much appreciated!!!

Anne, Yes, dress appears to have been shortened. The hem's raw edge was turned under and is obviously hand sewn.

Odd that there is only one pocket and one belt loop - no sign of another belt loop having been in place. Was this a 40's fad?
